Letter to Director of Education: Allow me to introduce myself. I am an enthusiastic, passionate educator. I develop and deliver professional development for teachers of all subject areas. The focus of my doctoral degree (Ph.D.) was on Reading integrated with Music at the primary level. Later, I expanded the training to include the use of visual art, dance, and drama to enhance other subject areas such as Mathematics, Science, English Language, and Social Studies. Problem: Children are not engaged in the learning process; they especially have difficulty with Math and English. Solution: Teach these subjects using art, dance, music and drama to make it more interesting; incorporate the culture of the country of origin. Initial Steps: 1) Offer professional development to teachers to show them how to create lessons and activities that integrate the arts, and alter their curriculum of study. 2) Collaborate with universities, academies, and government-sponsored educational programs. 3) Identify host sites for classes/workshops and key contacts. What I Have to Offer: I have been doing similar work for Colorado State University for over 20 years. During that time, I specialized in the training of Career and Technical Educators (vocational teachers). I also trained hundreds of teachers how to integrate concepts from more than one discipline (Mathematics, Science, English, etc). I have the ability to conduct training sessions with your team and to incorporate principles from your curriculum. Having me as your instructor will strengthen the English speaking skills of your faculty and staff. I can tailor the program to meet your needs. Because I am an independent contractor, I have a flexible schedule. I turn the ordinary into Extra-Ordinary! Warmest Regards, Linda Lyons, Ph.D. Colorado, USA [email protected]
