2015 ANNUAL REPORTLetter from the CEO
Dear friends,
At Good Sports we believe that kids who play do better. The statistics are out there proving that kids who play do better in school. They experience better health. Kids who play do better socially and develop life skills, such as goal setting and the work ethic needed to accomplish those goals. Kids who play do better in life. It’s as simple as that.
Take Nathan for instance. Nathan is a student who was struggling academically but found confidence and strength in playing soccer. His coaches, teachers and teammates had nothing but praise for this talented athlete, but he rarely had the opportunity to shine because of lack of access to equipment. With a donation of equipment to his soccer team, Nathan finally had access to the resources to excel in a sport he loved. And with that came a newfound confidence in many other areas of his life.
He began doing better in school – increasing his GPA by 1.2 points. Teachers noted he was more engaged in the classroom, attending before and after school tutoring. Coaches observed his circle of friends grow. Soccer was, for Nathan (and many students like him), a gateway through which to find acceptance and celebration at school.
Since 2003, Good Sports has helped three million kids like Nathan across the country, providing more than $19 million of brand new sports and fitness equipment and 2015 was another amazing year of impact thanks to the teamwork of Good Sports’ supporters, donors, followers, staff and so many more people who believe in our mission.
But we’ve found that our work is far from done. Three million kids now have the chance to play sports, but there are five million still out there who may never experience the lifelong benefits sport and physical activity can provide them. And with your help, Good Sports has great plans to continue to support millions of children every year until every child has the chance to live their best life.
On behalf of myself, our wonderful Board of Directors, all of our advisors and staff – thank you. Your past and future investments make it possible to provide all kids the lifelong benefits of sport and physical activity. Our continued ability to grow and take down the barriers to sports participation across the country is only possible thanks to all of you.
Thank you,

ABOUT GOOD SPORTS
Marius is a 4th grade student at the Kenny Elementary School with challenging behaviors that prevent him from staying focused throughout the school day. One day, during a game of kickball Marius hit a home run that he celebrated by running around all of the bases. All of the students playing kickball were cheering for Marius and giving him high-fives, however, his focus was not on the success of his kick. His focus was on another student, a 4th grader who was standing against the wall, watching the game with a longing look on his face. The student on the wall was left out of the game and was experiencing difficulties communicating with the other students about his desire to play kickball. After receiving his final high-five from his teammate, Marius walked towards the wall and didn’t look back. He walked over to the boy, put his arm around him and said something that made the boy smile from ear to ear. Both boys laughed and ran off to play a game of tag. At the end of recess, Coach Nate approached Marius and said to him, “Do you know what you did today?” and before Coach Nate could congratulate Marius on his sense of empathy; Marius answered “He needed someone to play with. It was the right thing to do.” This was an incredibly positive shift in behavior for Marius and Coach Nate shared this story with Marius’ classroom teacher. Now Marius is a student that Coach Nate can count on to play fairly and include everyone in a game. Additionally, Marius is hoping to earn a spot on the Junior Coach team next year. Without having the equipment donated from Good Sports, this story would not have been possible.”

“ We live in one of the poorest counties in the state. We also live in one of the small counties
where unemployment rate is very high (between 11% and 12%). There are very few job
opportunities and money is tight. This donation helps keep kids off the streets and away
from drugs. I would have had to get out and beat the bushes to find donations to pay it as
our funds are stretched. This is truly a blessing for our community! Thanks so much to all
who have helped!”
– Coordinator at the Clay County Family Connection, Inc.
TESTIMONIALS
HIGHLIGHT REEL
The One Million Kid MilestoneThe million kid milestone has been a common trend for Good Sports over the past couple of years. In the fall of 2014, Good Sports announced that equipment donations had officially supported one million children across the country. That announcement was 11 years in the making. Just 11 short months later, another one million children gained access to the sports and fitness opportunities they deserve to live healthy, active lives. So, 2015 marked the first year ever that Good Sports was able to support one million children in a single year and that number only continues to grow.
Creating Change in ChicagoIn January of 2015, Good Sports joined the students, faculty and staff of Ariel Community Academy in Chicago to celebrate a donation of sports equipment and apparel to the public school. The donation consisted of equipment necessary for recess, physical education classes and the enhancement of seven sports. With the $8,000 of new equipment, over 500 students and athletes would have the opportunity to participate in nine different forms of physical activity, increasing the average minutes of play per student by 45 each week.
Getting Georgia into SHAPEGeorgia SHAPE is the Governor’s statewide, multi-agency and multi-dimensional initiative that brings together governmental, philanthropic, academic and business communities to address childhood (0-18) obesity in Georgia. In 2015, Good Sports and Georgia SHAPE teamed up to help see this initiative through with donations of fitness based equipment packages valued at a total of $72,000 that were sent to 160 elementary, middle and high schools in Georgia all supporting over 131,000 area youth.
ATHLETES IN THE FIELD
Chris Archer, Tampa Bay RaysGood Sports, the Tampa Bay Rays Foundation and pitcher, Chris Archer, continued to move forward in their efforts to get more Tampa Bay area kids active with a number of donations during the year. Together the Rays Foundation and Chris enabled Good Sports to serve over 1,700 youth from Port Charlotte, St. Petersburg and Tampa with over $30,000 of equipment, footwear and apparel. Since 2014, Good Sports, Chris and the Rays have provided nearly $100,000 of new equipment to almost 6,000 kids across the Tampa Bay area. The Rays’ ace also attended each donation event throughout the course of the year, giving the children in each organization the opportunity to meet and interact with a major league baseball player–a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Zach Ertz, Philadelphia EaglesTouchDDowns for Kids is a collaboration between Good Sports, Zach Ertz of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Dunkin’ Donuts. For every touchdown scored by the Eagles each season, Dunkin’ Donuts donates $250 to Good Sports, with Zach Ertz contributing an additional $250 for every touchdown he scores. These funds are then used to make a donation of new football equipment to a youth football program in Greater Philadelphia, which took place at a ceremony attended by Zach and Dunkin’ Representatives. The Norristown Youth Eagles Football Program were the recipients of the 2015 donation, receiving more than $20,000 of new football equipment. Since 2013, the TouchDDowns for Kids program in coordination with Zach has resulted in over $41,000 donated to Good Sports to help get more kids in the game.
Tuukka Rask, Boston BruinsTuukka Rask has been an Ambassador for Good Sports since early 2014 and continues to provide support in a number of different ways. In 2015, Rask was honored at the 12th Annual Legends of the Ball Boston for his work with Good Sports to get local Boston youth in the game. In his commitment to raise funds and awareness for Good Sports Rask again donated an experiential live auction item, that featured tickets to a Bruins game and a meet and greet in his suite, which raised another $10,000 to go towards giving kids the chance to play.
PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
Picking, Packing and Playing with Dr Pepper Snapple GroupA second year of partnership with Dr Pepper Snapple Group through the Let’s Play initiative wrapped up in 2015 providing 350 equipment grants valued at over $1.3 million to kids across the country. This year of partnership introduced Pick-Pack-Play Days; a new service project concept as part of the initiative, which allows Dr Pepper Snapple Group employees to volunteer at their place of work and make a significant impact in their local communities. Four of these volunteer events were executed over the course of the year and involved over 100 volunteers helping to pack and donate more than $200,000 of new equipment to serve kids in their local communities.
Getting Kids in the Game with GEICOGEICO and Good Sports completed their sixth year of partnership through the 2015-2016 cycle with some very impactful donations to Massachusetts programs. The Revere Police Athletic League’s after-school basketball and mentoring program was the recipient of $5,600 of new equipment, including basketballs, basketball uniforms, warm-up apparel, medicine balls and dumbbells, which all helped increase the minutes of play per child by 60 minutes per week. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Middlesex County saw over $3,000 of new sports and fitness equipment arrive, which allowed the organization to add new age groups to their programs, increasing the opportunities for kids in their community to get active every day. The 2015-2016 cycle ended with an $11,000 donation of soccer equipment, basketballs, floor hockey gear and fitness equipment to the Tynan Community Center in South Boston. The donation included over 420 pieces of equipment supporting more than 430 kids in the program. Good Sports and GEICO will continue their partnership through the 2016-2017 cycle to continue to support kids in Massachusetts.
