Letter from President
Dear EWI Members, While reviewing the Board Reports in preparation for our June Board Meeting, I found the Membership Survey results disappointing. Not because of the comments that were written, but rather because we had not provided you with a clear understanding of our Education Fund proposal, the history,
and the reasoning behind it. For this I apologize. The information was included in the May Connect and was sent out to the membership approximately 10 days prior to our meeting. While it is everyone’s responsibility as a member, to stay informed, it is my responsibility as your President, to make sure you understand the information provided. I’ve decided to use this letter to better explain the proposal we received from our Past President’s Council (PPC) and discussed as a Board. Historical Information: Our Education Fund Investment Account has a balance of approximately $110,000. Each year, we spend a great deal of time and effort to raise $12,000 - $15,000 through our Golf Outings, Silent Auctions, Casino Nights, etc. We had hoped to raise enough funds to have this account become self-sustaining (endowed), but over time, realized that our goal was not a reality. Last year, we held two fundraisers; the Spring Conference and partnered to help All American Window & Door with their 30th Anniversary Celebration – between the two events, we raised nearly $30,000. At that time, it was agreed that we would not

fundraise for the Education Fund Investment Account during the 2015-16 year.
Proposal & Reasoning: The PPC, along with the Board of Directors, proposed that we continue to award $12,000 per year for the Chapter’s education and philanthropic initiatives ($6,000 for scholarships & $6,000 for literacy programs), but rather than holding a major fundraiser each year to support the expenditures, they proposed that we begin using the funds in the Education Fund Investment Account with the understanding that we would not allow the account to deplete below a certain amount.
In order for our Chapter to stay relevant, we recognize that we need to continue enhancing our member’s experience through programs, speakers, personal development, and community involvement. We want all of our members to experience a Leadership Caucus and Annual Meeting (LCAM). In order to do this, we could either increase dues or focus our efforts on fundraising for operations. Switching our fundraising efforts from the Education Fund to the Operation’s Fund will allow us to do this without increasing dues. I am confident that your experience will continue to be enhanced and our Chapter will stay relevant. You voted and it is clear that the majority of members wanted to begin using the Education Fund Investment Account for upcoming payments for scholarship and literacy programs. Once the Education Fund Investment Account nears $50,000, we will once again hold a major fundraiser with all monies raised going to said account. This strategy will be included in our Annual Strategic Planning that is reviewed, evaluated and updated each year. Just to be clear, at no time will we ever use our Education Fund Account for anything except Scholarship and Literacy Programs. Retention & Recruitment Policy On Guests (Non-Member) Fees It was also our intent to discuss with you our current Standing Rules regarding dinner fees for guests/non-members. Our current Chapter Budget had not set aside monies to cover guest/non-member dinner fees. At this time, we are going to continue to follow our Chapter’s Standing Rules that state guests will be charged dinner fees paid by them or paid by the member inviting them. If you have any questions regarding the above information, please don’t hesitate to call me. Our annual Potluck was once again a big success! Thank you to the committee for your hard work and thank you to everyone who provided a dish. The recipe document was great. And sometimes, we are lucky enough to have our very own members present the program, which was certainly the case with Debra May presenting Clarity on the 3G’s – Gratitude, Greatness and Growth. Deb, I’d like to thank you for your insight and tips on de-cluttering our busy lives! Now that summer is right around the corner, I’d like to wish each of you a safe and blessed 4th of July!
Cindy Kunze, 2015 – 2016 President

AND SURVEY MONKEY SAYS:
29 members responded following the June meeting!! Thank you.
*Loved the potluck event – it always seems a little bit more casual and relaxed. *The park setting was beautiful! The view from the room was so peaceful and serene. I appreciated the parking being close to the building. *VERY nice venue for this meeting. I thought the room set up was great as well as the food tables / presentation. Excellent work by the committee! *There never seems to be enough time to chat with everyone that I would like to. *Great idea to pull the recipes together. Kudos to Tina and her committee. *Debra kept my attention the entire time and I came away with a lot of food for thought. *Good to be reminded of the following: Declutter your life! Imagine waking up every morning and you are surrounded by ONLY what brings you joy! *Forgiveness – how important it really is. *It’s never too late to BE THE CHANGE! *I like we are starting to revisit some of the chapter practices.
*Usually I love the meetings but this one just seemed off . . . .the scholarship fund vote was not explained clearly at all. The board members who spoke about it seemed to struggle. Also there was no discussion of the other point in the notes about guest fees. That was completely overlooked.

Debra May was our speaker in June. She spoke on the 3 G’s – Growth, Greatness, & Gratitude. We were reminded to bring growth into our life to move to the next level. Greatness is the ability to let go and release things that no longer serve you. It gives space for growth. Gratitude is the glue that holds it all together. Imagine decluttering by taking EVERYTHING out of your closet to make physical space. Then put back in ONLY the things that make you feel great!!! You get clear and focused, moving you to greater things. Learn to be your authentic self. Take control over your emotions. Get rid of old emotions because they take up space, time and energy. Then learn to take action – build your inner strength – build your confidence – trust yourself – release thoughts to create space for new and greater things.

Thank you for the opportunity to be the speaker at the June Membership Meeting! I

things with photos and should have thought of that – we did have a great time – especially my
mom who is a huge brewers fan (and Hank the dog groupie!). To be honest, I was worried I
wasn’t going to make it myself on Friday – I was very ill in the morning but was able to pull

Things to live by
Here's the top five:
1. If you aren't enjoying your work, either
change what you do or change how you do it.
2. Treat people kindly, no matter who they are,
and it will always reward you.
3. Know your weaknesses and find people to do
what you'll never do well.
4. Create a bold vision that doesn't just make
you better off, but makes others better off.
5. Give yourself permission to make mistakes.
You'll never succeed if you're not risking them.
