This term our main focuses will be: Reading books Reading books will be sent home this term. Each week a reading book will be sent home for your child to share with an adult. Children will already have worked through the book with a teacher in class. The book will be sent home on two weekday nights. Reading books are separate from homework. Please return them each day in their poly pocket ready for the literacy lesson. Reading words and initial sound activities will also begin to go home this term. Please keep these at home to practise. It might be a good idea to keep the reading words in a small tub so they can be used for games. Literacy In Literacy, the children are used to working with a partner. We are encouraging them to recall each other’s information. We are working on the children following more than one instruction and carrying them out independently. We will continue to work with sounds, develop reading comprehension and enjoy stories and non- fiction books. In Reading, the children are continuing to ask and answer different kinds of questions. In Writing, as well as sharing their sentences orally the children are developing their phonological awareness of sounds and are beginning to build these together to make simple words. They are becoming more confident with ‘having a go’ at writing words independently. We continue to build on our drawing, storytelling skills and fine motor development eg. scissor control. We encourage children to bring fruit on most days of the week as well as on Fruity Friday. As a reward the children can take part in the whole school dress down days. Every day the children will continue to take part in an emotional-check in and have the opportunity to share their feelings with a group. In P.E we will be working on travelling, object control, games and gymnastics. P.E lessons will continue to be on Monday (P1A) Tuesday (P1B) and Friday, both P1s. Every day we will continue to do some form of energetic activity as part of the Healthy Hearts Challenge. Social Studies, Music, Science, RME, ICT, French and Art Our main focus this term will be ‘Jobs in our Local Area’ and how people help us. We are linking this to our ‘DYW’ (Developing the Young Workforce) learning. In Science, we will be learning about parts of the body. This term we will be visiting the planters to cultivate some plants and find out about wild plants in our local area. In RME, we will be celebrating different festivals from different faiths and towards the end of the term we will be looking more closely at the Easter story. Art and Music continue to be part of the children’s daily experiences and we encourage the children to explore different mediums and make choices based on their own preferences. In French the children will be learning basic colour names and some outside games and will continue to use simple French phrases every day. Primary One will continue to use the Chromebooks with their P7 buddies. This term they will be focussing on reading and number activities online. Each week the blog is updated. Please visit the P1 page regularly to catch up on what we have been doing. Thank you for your feedback so far. This term P1 will be leading a short assembly to which parents will be invited. We will send out a letter nearer the time. Thank you,
