Hi everybody!

After learning the “traditional-like” painting technique using photoshop, I have prepared a simplestep by step tutorial to guide you and try this painting style. Enjoy!

To begin with, I will be using this image from my folder – nothing really special about it, just likeany other rendered image I had.

In photoshop, open any image, then triplicate it by selecting all (ctrl a) then pasting twice (ctrl v). itwill look something like this.

Then click on layer 1 and add the chalk and charcoal filter. Below are the settings.

Click layer 2, then add the glowing edges filter, and the settings.

Again, click on layer 1, change the blending option to “color burn” and the layer opacity to 60 asshown below.

Image will look something like this if you turn off layer 2.

Click on layer 2, change the blending option to “difference” and the layer opacity to 60 as shownbelow.

Image will look something like this after were done with both layers.

After doing two layers of filters, you will see that the “traditional-like” painting is already comingout. Now, we will add another layer in white to make our creation more believable. We need toadd some noise and blur as shown below.

And start erasing parts of that layer to show the painting below. The trick is to use a wet brush tosimulate the strokes of a paint brush.

The images below shows the step by step erase pattern.

After a few tweaks on brightness, contrast, saturation and other personal editing preferences,here is the final image.

You can also make a black & white, sepia or bluprint output from the finished product.
