Let's move from good to great

THANKFUL: We need to look deep into ourselves and undertake a personal transformation to bring us to

    the next level

HAPPY New Year! May it bring happiness, good health and prosperity to all of us. May it also bring

peace of mind and enduring harmony all round.

When we look around us, we have much to be thankful about. There's more we want as a nation. With

good management and leadership, coupled with the desire to rise and stand tall among others, we can

certainly be all that we can be. But we must clean up our act. It's appalling to see litter being thrown out

of a Mercedes Benz just as the driver turns to take a corner. I saw this just before reaching the Sungai

    Besi tollbooth yesterday.

It is irritating to see a waiter taking an order without even a word or smile. And equally as bad is the

cashier accepting payment without saying "thank you". I'm sure many of us have encountered taxi

drivers running down the government simply because he has to queue to fill up his tank with gas. When

asked whether he was happy with the government's one-off aid of a set of tyres, he baulked and argued

    that it was nothing.

"Berapa sangat harga satu tayar! Saman AES lagi mahal." (The price of a tyre is nothing compared with

    an AES traffic summons.)

I took a ride to a Felda settlement recently. I had a meal at one of the stalls there, served by a middle-

aged man. The stall was clean.

When asked how life was treating him, Saleh said: "Alhamdulillah. Tahun ini rezeki murah. Saya

bersyukur. Saya baru hantar emak saya pergi umrah. Insya-Allah tahun depan saya pulak akan pergi.

Tahun ni saya besarkan sikit rumah. Durian runtuh yang Felda bagi banyak membantu kami."

(This year has been good, thank God. I managed to send my mother for her umrah. Next year, I hope to

go. I'm renovating my house now. Felda's listing has brought much benefit for us settlers.)

On a MAS flight to Cambodia yesterday, I was surprised to be greeted by the chief stewardess as she

walked the aisle enquiring about our breakfast on board. It wasn't the best of breakfasts, but the

friendly nature of cabin crew members more than compensated for the small roti bom.

For this country to be great, some of us need to change our attitude.

We need to look deep into ourselves and undertake a personal transformation to bring us to the next

level. If we don't litter, if we have a positive nature and think positive, if we manage our resources

better, if we remember to save for a rainy day, if we make serious efforts to bond with each other, and

walk the extra mile, we can rise from good to great.

Next year will be a tough year. It's an election year. Much mud will be flung. We pray for a good, clean

fight. I hope the nation will stay its course and continue to prove to the rest of the world that our

diversity is our strength and charm.

Happy new year to all of us, may it will bring us happiness, good health, prosperity and everything that

we wanted based on our effort. Hopefully, this year is far better than before and also bring peace of

mind and enduring harmony all around.

When we looked around us, there are so much things that we need to be thankful about, Alhamdulillah.

With good management and leadership, together with desire to rise and stand tall among others, we are

confident that we can achieve everything that we want and we can be. But firstly, we must clean up our

negative act that can hold back everything that we should achieve.

Its a disappointment to see a litter being thrown out from a Mercedes Benz, it is also irritates us to see

a waiter taking an order without having a word or smile and equally as bad when the cashier is recieving

our money when accepting payment without saying one magical word thank you.

When the author took a ride a Felda settlement recently, he asked an owner of the stalls there abot how

life has treat him up till now. He just said that, this year has been good. He managed to send his motherfor her umrah, he also renovating his house now.

The author also tells a story about his trip to Cambodia by Mas flight yesterday, he was so surprised to

be greeted by chief stewardess as she asked about their breakfast on board. He said that it wasnt the

best breakfast but the friendly nature of the crew member amazed him and he just forgot about the

    small roti bom.

The point is, for this country, our country Malaysia to be great, some of us need to change our attitude.

We need to looked deep into ourselves and undertake the personal information to bring ourself to the

next level. This is how we move good to great. We need a positive nature and positive thinking.

This upcoming year is a tough year and its will always be tough in the future. What we need is change.

We pray for a good and hope every individuals plays their own part to change and move from good to

    great.
