Nasi Goreng

This traditional Indonesian fried rice can be a meal or a side dish. It’s often served with a fried egg, and it’s delicious!

Ingredients ü 1-2 chicken breasts

ü 2 tbsp oil

ü 2 garlic cloves, minced

ü 1 tsp red chili

ü ½ onion, diced

ü 3 ½ cups cooked long grain rice, cold

ü 3 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)

(If you can’t find kecap manis in the grocery store, just add 1 tbsp of honey to 3 tbsp of soy sauce.)

ü 1 bunch green onions (about 4-6), thinly sliced

ü 4 eggs (optional)

ü Cherry tomatoes (optional)

ü Cucumbers (optional)

Here’s how you make it1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over high heat.

Cook the chicken until browned.

2. Remove from skillet and dice into small chunks.

3. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add garlic and chili, and cook until the garlic smells yummy.

4. Add the onion and cook until soft.

5. Add rice and kecap manis (or soy sauce with honey). Cook until the rice is heated and the kecap manis is evenly dispersed over all the rice.

6. Add the chicken and half of the green onions and stir.

7. Dish up the fried rice on a plate.

8. Cook eggs, sunny side up (optional).

9. Serve the rice with a fried egg on top, remaining green onions, and cut up cherry tomatoes and cucumber (optional). Yum!

Let’s Make Nasi Goreng!

Try this recipe for Indonesian fried rice with your family. Yum!

Did you know that Indonesia is made up of more than 17,000 islands? It’s true! That’s a whole lot of islands, and a lot of people live there. Indonesia is the fourth most populated country in the world, and approximately 700 languages are spoken throughout the country. More than 500 of those languages don’t have any part of the Bible yet. That’s a lot of people waiting to learn about how much God loves them!

Mack and I want to share a delicious recipe for nasi goreng, or Indonesian fried rice. Try making it for dinner with your family sometime, and when you eat it, remember to pray for the many languages in Indonesia that need to get the Bible so that people can learn about Jesus.

Fried rice is best made with day-old rice that’s been refrigerated. If you don’t have that,

at least wait for the rice to become room temperature before adding to the skillet

for best results.
