LET’S TALK TURKEY by Fran McEwen
Gobble, Gobble to you! That’s Turkey Talk you see.
For PLEASE DON’T buy a turkey At your grocery!!
Why not eat a pizza ??? . . . Or some gourmet cuisine??? You cannot know how much To turkeys this would mean.
Invite one as your guest Please do, Thanksgiving Day.
Seat one at your table. He’ll thank you we daresay.
Maybe cook a pot roast. Perhaps, you might serve ham,
But a basted turkey Would just create bedlam!
Yes, be kind to turkeys For Thanksgiving this year. Ban them from your ovens. Allay their year-long fear.
PLE-E-E-E-ASE,
Feed – Don’t Eat – a Turkey Come this Thanksgiving Day.
Add one to you guest list. Carve one – NOT – this I pray.
Turkeys shall be grateful To escape with their lives.
No doubt, they’ll dance around, While exchanging high-fives!!!

Dear Friends,
Happy Thanksgiving! Perhaps by now you’ve eaten too much
turkey, finished off the pumpkin pie, and settling in for a nice
post-feast nap. Before you nod off, make sure you take note
that this coming Sunday is the start of Advent! We will cele-
brate the start of this holy season with our annual Hanging of
the Greens. The worship service will prepare our sanctuary,
and our hearts, for the coming of the Christ Child.
It is simply amazing how fast this year is drawing to a close.
Because of that I want to encourage you to be mindful of two
things.
First, if you haven’t yet made your commitment for the 2017
Budget, there is still plenty of time. Your Finance Committee
is hard at work preparing for next year and no matter the
amount, letting us know your intention helps them in their
planning. You can mail in your card, drop it in the offering
plate, or come by the church office at your convenience.
Second, I want to encourage everyone to pick up an Advent
Devotional booklet the next time you’re at church. They are
available outside the sanctuary and have daily readings for
each day of Advent. This can be a busy time of year, but you
deserve to set aside a few moments each day for prayer and
reflection on the true meaning of this season.
Grace and Peace,
Ricky

NOVEMBER MISSION FOCUS
Adoption and Foster Services – More Ways to Help So, you are unable to foster parent or adopt but want to help! Here are ways you can raise awareness and advo-cate for vulnerable, waiting children. ►Become a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer. You don’t need to be a lawyer or social worker to gather in-formation that can be used to inform judges of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them. ►Mentor a child in foster care. A mentor or tutor can make a lifetime of difference for children in need of permanency. Foster Care to Success. can help a foster teen in college; Big Brothers Big Sisters provides many men-toring options; other opportunities in your area can be found at the National Foster Care and Adoption Directory. ►Offer free photography and videography services. Adoption agencies need photos and videos of children to share with prospective families. The National Foster Care and Adoption Directory and the Heart Gallery of America program can direct you on where your services are need-ed. ►Be a respite care provider. Offer parents and oth-er caregivers short-term child care services that give temporary relief, improve family stability, and reduce the risk of abuse or neglect. Fundraise or donate supplies to foster care organizations. Everything from school supplies and toys, to suitcases are needed. Whether it’s donating money or supplies directly, organizing a fund-raising or donation drive, whatever you do will go a long way toward helping those in foster care and waiting to be adopted.
