Time to stitch..1. Trace embroidery design onto center of background fabric, using a lightbox.2. Most of the stitching on our little skier girl is done using a outline stitch.3. Stitch the skis and poles with 2372 Dark Brown thread. Stitch two lines of the outline stitch for the

poles so that they are a little bolder. Use a backstitch on the pole baskets.4. Stitch the boots, gloves, and pole straps with 2692 Black thread.5. Stitch her snowsuit with 5002 Cherry Red. Use straight little stitches to fill in the band of her hat, and

the cuffs on her pants.6. Stitch her face with 2315 Flesh thread.7. Stitch her bangs with 4150 Variegated Gold.8. Stitch her scarf and snowsuit details with 5016 Green thread. Use an outline stitch for her scarf, and

straight little stitches for the fringe. Use a satin stitch for the knot on her scarf, and the top of her hat. Use a lazy daisy stitch for the flowers on her jacket, and french knots for the buttons on her pants.

9. Stitch the hill and snowflakes with 4663 Variegated Turquoise thread. Use an outline stitch for the hill. The snowflakes are stitched with a backstitch, french knots, and lazy daisies.

Make her braids...1. For each braid, use 18 strands of 4150

Variegated Gold thread, that are about 6” long. Thread as many strands onto your needle as you can, and come up through the background fabric, leaving the long threads loose for now.

2. Separate the strands into three sections of 6 strands each, and tightly braid, until about 2” long.

3. Tightly tie off the end using a piece of green thread. Trim the ends.

4. Tack the braids into place by stitching in two or three places along the length of the braid.

Step 1 Step 2

Step 3 Step 4

Finish the block!1. Trim the stitched block to 4.5” x 6.5”.2. Choose scrappy fabrics to sash the block. 3. Cut 4 pieces 1.5” x 2.5” and 4 pieces 1.5” x 4.5”.4. Stitch 2 smaller pieces together end to end to make

a side unit. Press seam to one side. Repeat to make another side unit. Sew the units on either side of the stitched block.

5. Stitch 2 of the longer pieces together end to end to make a top unit. Press the seam to one side, and sew to the top of the block. Repeat for the bottom unit.

6. The finished block should measure 8.5” x 6.5”.
