PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

Principal’s Message 23rd April 2021 Year 3-6 Inquiry Learning In the lead up to the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, our Year 3-6 students have been learning about countries and their location across the globe. They are showing great interest in this and we are looking forward to seeing their research and hear-ing their expanded general knowledge. If you have an atlas at home please make the time to share this with your children as their reading for understanding develops and their interest in the wider world grows. Staff Update and welcome Brayden Guareschi Year 2/3/4 class in Term 2 while Audra Lawes is on sick leave. Joshua Pegg – Education Support Officer and Koori Education across the school. Taylor Campbell – past student of our school and now Education Support Officer P-6. Jessica Williams – Education Support Officer in Year 2/3/4 and Community Engagement in the Office. Attendance at School – 2021 Annual Imple-mentation Plan Targets In 2021 we are working hard to ‘decrease stu-dents with more than 20 days absence’ from 41% (2019) to 30% (2021). The DET state wide target for student absence is 12 days per year. We have a small number of students who regularly have a large amount of time not at school. When we communicate with each other in a timely way we can support improved school attendance. Thank you to our parents and carers who contact the school before 10:00am to explain absences. Congratulations to our 2021 students and families for achieving excellent attendance in Term 1 2021. We have terrific Literacy, Numeracy and Read-ing Intervention programs that start at 9:00 every day. When children are at school on time they are able to participate, progress and achieve in their learning goals. Please ensure you child is at school on time every day unless they unwell, have a medical appointment or have COVID symptoms. If your child has COVID symptoms they are required to get a COVID test. Some students have been regularly absent on a Monday because they are tired from the week-end. On Sunday (and school) evenings please en-sure that:

Children are showered and in bed before 8:30pm

Devices are removed from bedrooms and no-tifications are off

Schools clothes are out ready for Monday morning

Shoes are ready School bags are packed with a drink bottle

and reading diary Lunch items are ready to pack into a lunch

box or a lunch order is written out If your child is unwell please make an ap-

pointment with your GP

Weekly Assembly - Friday 2:30pm All parents and friends are welcome to join as-sembly every Friday at 2:30pm. Please remember to use the QR CODE and sign in at the office first. It is lovely for the students to have an audi-ence again. Year 3-6 Camp at Cave Hill Creek 26-38 April The camp bus will depart just after 9:00 so stu-dents need to be at school on time. Please ensure they have spare waterproof shoes, a warm sleep-ing bag and waterproof rain coat. Year 3-6 stu-dents not attending camp are required to come to school. Student participation in camp is based on our School Wide Positive Behaviour expecta-tions, respect, responsibility and safety. We are looking forward to all involved having a great experience together. Head Lice and Long Hair For health and safety reasons long hair needs to be tied or pinned back away from eyes. We have had many incidents of Head Lice recently, so it important to keep hair off tables and away from touching others. No Smoking Zone - Reminder Please remember that smoking near the school boundary is NOT permitted. You need to be 50 metres from our Yarrowee and Warreen Street fence lines. Please support our Child Safe Healthy Positive School environment.

Finally, please visit Book Fair, it is open every day from 2:45pm and it is a highlight for students during Literacy and Numeracy Week.
