Context of the lessonThis lesson is one of the lessons they study about Ancient Egypt. The previous lessons were about making Mummies and about Pharaohs.Teaching goalTo know which animals existed in Ancient Egypt.Learning objectives Students will be able to:- Understand the myths researchers made about Ancient Egyptian Animals.- Link what they see to their environment.- Describe the animals and guess some facts about them and compare it later what will be taught.Assumptions about prior learning- Students can describe the animals and can tell facts about different animals.- They know that names of some animals (e.g. hippopotamus).Anticipated problems and possible solutions Some students may want to share many stories which may not give the opportunity to the others. I will tell them to raise their hand and not shouting out.I have to make sure they can work as a group (the last game) to win the game and to learn the communication skills.Personal focus for this lesson I have to make sure the content is clear and understandable and that students are able to link what they study to their environment. I will deal with discipline immediately.Target languageHieroglyphs, ostriches, feathers, fans, hippopotamus, crops, fields, guardian, cobra, poisonous, sacred, Nile, owl.

DiscussionAsk students what are their favorite pets and what facts they know about them. Let them
express their ideas.
Students will have time to think about the asked question so they can express their ideas confidently. Students can talk to their partners about their favorite pet.
Video: Ancient Egyptian AnimalsShow students video of ancient Egyptian animals. Before that, ask them to think of differences between today’s animals and
ancient animals. They can write their ideas on a paper to not forget.
Students will watch the video and they can take notes as they think of differences between today’s animals and ancient animals.
Ancient Egyptian Animals FactsShow students PowerPoint slides that include
facts and pictures and ask them questions while explaining the facts. Let them think of
question also, to quiz their friends.
Students should listen carefully to the facts so they can answer the asked question. They will be asked to think of a question to ask their peers.
Extension: If time, let them make posters.
Writing in HieroglyphsTell students that ancient Egyptians used
special symbols as letters and some of them were symbols of animals.
Each group will be provided with hieroglyphics. The teacher will show the
hieroglyphics using the hieroglyphs’ website.
Students should use the hieroglyphs they have to make the word and discover what it is. The quicker they make the word, the more points they get.They will check their answer with the teacher.
Ask students what they liked about the lesson and evaluate themselves and their
understanding.
Students can brainstorm what they learnt in pairs and then evaluate what they did in the lesson.
