Co-operative society, consumers, producers,

marketing, credit

Co-operative society is a voluntary association of

persons who join together with the motive of

welfare of the members.

Co-operative societies are of different types:

consumer’s co-operative societies, producer’s co-

operative society, marketing co-operative

societies, farmer’s co-operative societies, credit

co-operative societies, co-operative housing

societies.

The consumer’s co-operative societies are formed

for protecting the interest of the consumers.

Consumer’s co-operative society purchases goods

in bulk directly from the wholesalers and sells

goods to the members.

Producer’s co-operative societies are set up to

protect the interest of small producers.

Producer’s co-operative societies supplies raw

materials, equipment and other inputs to the

members and also buy their output for sales.

Marketing co-operative societies are established

Farmer’s co-operative societies are established to

protect the interest of farmer’s by providing

better inputs at a reasonable cost.

Credit co-operative societies are established for

providing easy credit on reasonable terms to the

members.

Co-operative housing societies are established to

help people with limited income to construct

houses at reasonable costs.

The main aim of these co-operative societies is

to avoid the middle man and thereby reducing the

cost.

The profit, if any, is shared among the members

of the co-operative society.

Co-operative societies are of various types based on

the nature of their operations.

Producer’s co-operative societies

Marketing co-operative societies

Farmer’s co-operative societies

Phase 1: Introduction phase

After the routine classroom procedures, teacher

interacts with the students.

Teacher asks the following question to check their

previous knowledge.

1. What is a co-operative society?

2. What is the main aim of co-operative society?

3. How does a co-operative society formed?

Very good!

After getting the answers from the students, teacher

said that we can classify co-operative societies into

different types.

So today we are going to discuss about it.

Phase 2: Development phase

Teacher writes on the white board “Types of co-

operative society”

Activity 1: General discussion based on pictures:

Teacher shows the image of different types of co-

operative societies to get an idea about it.

At first, teacher shows the first image
