Learning Objectives:Students will understand the rules for the 2-step method.Students will understand how to solve a linear equation using the 2-step method.Students will be able to successfully use an online graphing calculator to check if their answers are correct.

Learning Activity:The teacher will write the 2 steps on the board and have it there as reference.The teacher will go over the 2-step method at the beginning of class using different examples, first teacher explaining then going through examples with the class. At the end of each problem, the teacher will check their work on the online graphing calculator as a walkthrough for the students.The teacher will then put examples of 2-step equations on the board and ask the students to answer them independently.The teacher will then ask the students to play the game in pairs to solidify the concept.

Provide Information:The teacher will begin the class with going over what the equation of a line is as well as what each piece of the equation means. The teacher will ask before giving the answer if anybody can remember each piece.The teacher will provide the two steps required for solving linear equations at the beginning of class and go through the steps so there is little confusion.The teacher will write three examples of linear equations on the board and go through them with the class. First example: y = 3x + 8 where y = 4. Solve for x.Second example: y = 7(a + 10) where y = 21. Solve for a. Third example: 47c + 2y = 32c 2 where y = 11. Solve for c.At the end of each example, go through how to check the solution on the online graphing calculator on the projector so the students will learn through example how to use it.

Provide Practice:Students will assist the teacher in going through the 3 equations written on the board.The teacher will put several examples on the board and ask that the students work on it independently. The teacher will be walking around the room to help students at any time. At the end of each problem, the students will be asked to check their solution on the online graphing calculator found on the teachers lesson plan page. After the students have successfully answered every problem that the teacher put on the board and have checked all their answers, the teacher will then ask the students to put their answer on the board. Then afterwards, the teacher will ask the students to look on the lesson plan page of the teachers website and play the game titled Hoop Shoot in groups of 2 and ask them to play the 2 player game. If a group finishes early, the teacher will ask them to play the time challenge individually.

Provide Knowledge of Results:Verbal feedback will be given when going over the examples on the board at the beginning of class.When the students are working on the examples that were put up on the board, the teacher will be walking around the room giving verbal guidance for any student who is struggling and see where the confusion came from and find a way to make the material clearer. And the teacher will check to see if they are properly checking their answers with the online graphing calculator.When the students are playing the game on 2-step equations, the teacher will be walking around the classroom observing the progress of the students.If there is still confusion over the material, the teacher will provide a few more examples on the board and ask the students to help go through the problems to solidify the concepts for the entire class.

Review the Activity:At the end of the class period the teacher will erase the two steps from the board and ask the classroom (without looking at their notes) what the two steps are informally. The teacher will provide one more example on the board and ask the class to find answer and have the first person to raise their hand be the one to answer.

Methods of Assessment:The teacher will check to see if the students were properly using the online graphing calculator to check their answers.The teacher will provide a mini quiz with 3 questions covering the course objectives for the next class period and give written feedback for the following class. The quiz wont affect their overall grade it is just a way to check if the students can solve the 2-step equations independently without their notes.
