Topic/Theme brief description of the lesson – The purpose of this lesson is to introduce rhythmic gymnastics specifically the ribbon apparatus Prescribed Learning Outcomes (PLO’s) Curriculum organizer from School based IRP B5 apply a range of movement concepts (including concepts associated with body awareness, spatial awareness, qualities of movement and relationships) to improve their performance of activity based movement skills A7 demonstrate a willingness to participate in a wide range of physical activities including individual and dual activities, games and rhythmic movement activities including dance and gymnastic activities Specific Learning Outcomes (SLO’s) – it is expected that students will: (SWBAT) Listen to directions and consequences Learn that Rhythmic gymnastics has four different apparatus Understand the difference between artistic and rhythmic gymnastics Have success performing Ribbon movements Have fun learning how to control their bodies with an apparatus Create a mini ribbon routine in groups of 2, teach it to all other groups and put together into one big routine How to safely use the ribbon Materials and Resources What does the teacher need and what do the students need Gym strip, bare feet, attendance sheet, mats set up, ribbons, PE lesson plan, task cards, wall charts, stereo Introduction How will you start the lesson? Greet students after they have changed and met back in the gym Attendance Set up mats in a square Beam station as per lesson 2 and box station as per lesson 3 Shape of the lesson – Teacher will demo some ribbon skills in a circle, you will try, then stations You will have time to practice these skills, You will make a routine with your ribbon and teach your partner, you and your partner will join another group and join all 4 peoples ribbon movements together and then you will join one more time to form a group of 8 and make a group routine Game – musical gymnastics

Topic/Theme brief description of the lesson – The purpose of this lesson is to introduce rhythmic

gymnastics specifically the ribbon apparatus

Prescribed Learning Outcomes (PLO’s) Curriculum organizer from School based IRP

� Warm up – I will lead (incorporate safety and gymnastic positions into stretch)

Development: what will you do and what will the student do?

� Watch video clip

� Warm up game musical gymnastics

� While in a Circle stretching teach the safety involved with the ribbons and remind

my cue to stop!

� Stretch and basic positions in a circle

� While in Circle introduce ribbons – teach names of the basic rhythmic ribbon

movements

� Demo snake, circle, wave, figure 8 – students try each move while being shown

the move

� Have students practice for 5 min with music linking moves together

� Find a partner with the same color ribbon as you and show them what you came

up with by having them mirror your moves. You teach it to them and they will

also teach theirs to you. Link the two routines together

� Join another group to make 4 and repeat

� Join another group of four to make 8 teach all moves to make one routine, you

can add in formations or cannon or wave

� Could add leaps in to routine

� Self-discovery on other apparatus

Closure - How will you end the lesson in a meaningful way?

� As a group, debrief the session. Did you learn anything or try anything new today?

Did today’s lesson change your view of rhythmic gymnastics? Turn to your partner

and share what you most enjoyed today

� Tell students what we will do next day. (Build on today’s lesson, add in hoops)

Assessment and Evaluation - How will you know that the students met/learned/understood the SLO’s?

� Observation of Student Listening, Participation (level of intensity)

� Self-evaluation using Student responsibility scale (explained to students at the

beginning of the semester)

gymnastics specifically the hoop apparatus

Prescribed Learning Outcomes (PLO’s) Curriculum organizer from School based IRP

• A7 demonstrate a willingness to participate in a wide range of physical activities

including individual and dual activities, games and rhythmic movement activities

including dance and gymnastic activities

• C2 demonstrate proper use of equipment and facilities.

Specific Learning Outcomes (SLO’s) – it is expected that students will: (SWBAT)

� Listen to directions and consequences

� Have success performing Hoop movements

� Have fun learning how to control their bodies with an apparatus

� Learn how to use the Hoops as another rhythmic gymnastics apparatus

Materials and Resources – What does the teacher need and what do the students need

� Gym strip, bare feet, attendance sheet, mats set up, hoops, PE lesson plan, task

cards, wall charts, stereo

Introduction – How will you start the lesson?

� Greet students after they have changed and met back in the gym

� Attendance

� Set up mats and equipment the same as yesterday

� Shape of the lesson – warm up, hoops then stations

� Hula competition!

� Self discovery on other apparatus – could use hoops as well

Development: what will you do and what will the student do?

� Warm up game – cat and mouse on the mats

� Warm up – I will lead (incorporate safety and gymnastic positions into stretch)

� While in a Circle stretching teach names of the basic rhythmic hoop movements

and the planes of the hoop

� Practice for 5 min.

� Find a partner with the same color hoop as you – teach partner hoop rolls left and

right and boomerang, leap thru, spinning, going in and out of hoop, jumping in

hoop

� Throwing, catching

� Hula hooping – different body parts

� Hula competition

� Self-discovery at stations incorporate hoops as another safe station (no need to

spot)

Closure - How will you end the lesson in a meaningful way?

� As a group, debrief the session. Did you learn anything or try anything new today?

Turn to a partner and tell them one way of using the hoop

� Tell students that we will be doing individual routines tomorrow incorporating a set

criteria that we as a class set together. Routines will only be shown to your partner.
