Garba

• Garba is a form of dance which originates from the state of Gujarat in India. Traditionally, it is performed during the nine-day Hindu festival Navaratri.

• The theme of the songs are around the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Devotee's wear colourful costumes while performing garba and dandiya.

Lavani• Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance, which particularly performed to the beats of Dholki, a percussion instrument. Lavani is noted for its powerful rhythm.

• In Maharashtra and southern Madhya Pradesh, it is performed by the female performers wearing nine-yard long sarees. The songs are sung in a quick tempo.

Karakattam• Karakaattam is an ancient folk dance of Tamil Nadu performed in praise of the rain goddess Mariamman.

• The ancient Tamil epic says that this type of dance derived from Bharatham and a mixture of multiple forms of Tamil dance forms like Bharatanatyam postures and mudras.

• The offering of this dance is to the goddess to bless rain. The performers balance a pot on their head.

Ghoomar

• Ghoomar or Ghumar is a traditional folk dance of Rajasthan.

• It was Bhil tribe who performed it to worship Goddess Sarasvati which was later embraced by other Rajasthani communities.

• The dance is chiefly performed by veiled women who wear flowing dresses called ghaghara.

Bhangra

• Bhangra is the most popular folk dance of Punjab.

• The dance is generally performed during the Vaisakhi festival that celebrates the harvest.

• The Bhangra is danced to the rhythm of a drum, known as the dhol.

• The dresses that are worn during a Bhangra performance are very bright and colorful to symbolize the joyful and celebratory nature of the occasion.

Rouf• Rouf dance is a traditional and rhythmic folk dance of Jammu and Kashmir.• In this beautiful dance form, there are women who line up in two rows facing each other and perform this beautiful dance .• The dance is usually performed in all auspicious occasions and festivals. • Also this dance is particularly practiced in the spring season when the weather is good and the nature is blooming to glory.

Bihu

• The Bihu dance is an indigenous folk dance from the Indian state of Assam related to the Bihu festival and an important part of Assamese culture.

• Performed in a group, the Bihu dancers are usually young men and women, and the dancing style is characterized by brisk steps, and rapid hand movements.

• The traditional costume of dancers is colorful and centred round the red colour theme, signifying joy and vigour.

Pulikali• Pulikkali is a recreational folk art from the state of Kerala, India.Itis performed by trained artists to entertain people on the occasion of Onam, an annual harvest festival, celebrated mainly in the Indian state of Kerala.

• Performers painted like tigers and hunters in bright yellow, red, and black dance to the beats of instruments like Udukkuand Thakil.

• Literal meaning of Pulikkali is the 'play of the tigers' hence the performance revolve around the theme of tiger hunting.

Chhau

• The Chhau dance is mainly performed during festivals in the region of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha, especially the spring festival of Chaitra Parva and in which the whole community participates.

• Chhau dance is a tribal dance form which is a mixture of dance with martial arts. Chhau is a popular dance form in the eastern part of India. Chhau dance is performed in three styles, named after the place where it was originated or evolved.
