Watch your Skills! Adding and Subtracting Integers

Adding and Subtracting Fractions as Integers

Things to look for first

1) Are the denominators the same?

2) Are there mixed fractions I should change into improper fractions?

3) Can I clean up the equation? (get rid of extra + and  signs)

Adding and Subtracting Fractions as Integers

Then check: Are the signs attached to the fraction the exact same or different?

1) If they are the same: I can add those two fractions together (whatever sign they were goes out front)

EXAMPLE

2) If they are different: I can subtract those two fractions

(the sign from the bigger fraction goes out front)

EXAMPLE
