What I learned about Jesus this week: Jesus opens the way to God.

The Apple Tree PrayerThe bright fall day was just right for picking

apples. There was no better place on earth

than Grandpa Allen’s apple orchard.

Danny had invited his friend Michael to

pick apples. The boys climbed trees and ate

apples all afternoon.

Michael climbed a tree and suddenly

pointed off into the distance. “Look! A

rainbow!” he said.

“Wow!” Danny said. “What a great

rainbow. Thank You, God, for this great day!”

He had not thought about praying out

loud. It just slipped out.

Michael looked surprised. “I thought

people only prayed in church.”

“I can pray anytime,” said Danny. “Know

why? Because Jesus is always with me, not

just when I’m in church.”

“How do you know that?” asked Michael.

“Because I asked Him to be my Savior

and my forever friend,” Danny said.

“My grandma talks about that. Tell me

more,” Michael said as they climbed down

the apple tree.

Solomon’s Temple for GodBible story from 1 Kings 5:1—9:9; Hebrews 9; Matthew 27:51

King Solomon wanted to build a place to worship God. Solomon gathered together the wood and stone. He gathered gold, silver, and gems.

Many people worked hard to build the temple. The best workers and the best supplies were used.

Crash! Bang! The workers cut logs. Boom! Clank! The workers shaped the stones. Zip! Scrape! The workers sewed cloth and carved decorations.

The temple had a special room. It was called the Holy of Holies. The ark of the covenant was kept in this room. It meant that God was near.

Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies. He would pray to God about the sins of the people. No one else could go so close to God’s room.

A curtain hung in front of the door to make sure no one would look in.

People brought animals to the temple. The animals were offered as sacrifices. That meant they were killed on an altar. Then God would forgive the sins of His people.

Many years passed. Jesus came to earth. He died on the cross. He was the perfect sacrifice. He offered His own life instead of animals.

When Jesus died, the curtain at the Holy of Holies was torn apart. The way to God was opened. Then Jesus went into heaven to pray for us. He is like our high priest.

Now we can go right to God if we believe in Jesus. We don’t have to go through a building. We don’t have to offer an animal. Jesus opened the way to God.
