Trinity Sunday

As we transition from the Easter Season into Ordinary Time, we cel-

ebrate Trinity Sunday. What we know about the mystery of God we

know because God has chosen to reveal Himself to us. He has re-

vealed Himself as Father and Creator, as Son and Savior, and in his

ongoing work in the Church and in the world as the Holy Spirit. We

see this described in the opening prayer of today’s Mass, which be-

gins: “God our Father, who by sending into the world the Word of

truth and the Spirit of sanctification made known to the human race

your wondrous mystery.” This prayer names the three persons of

the Trinity. God the Father, who brought us into being, reveals His

love for us by sending His Son to redeem us and who continues to

reveal His love for us by the work of the Holy Spirit which is made

manifest in the Church, within which we are disciples.

Our Christian understanding describes the Triune God above all else

as Love. This is important for us because it means that in human

love and human loving we can begin to understand something about

our God. Our word “love,” especially in English, has a wide variety

of uses. Our culture can tend to focus on romantic and sexual love,

which is one way in which love is expressed. Our life experiences

and our discerning hearts also reveal a more holistic reality of love

in our relationships. To ultimately explore the fullness of love, we

turn to God, who is Love.

God reveals a love that is abundant and unconditional. He loves in a

way that is not self-seeking, but that is self-giving. God has planted

within each one of us His image and likeness and so the capacity to

make a self-gift of ourselves to one another. We have been baptized

in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and so

have become dwellings of Love. The more we can tap into this deep-

est identity and live from the unconditional love of God, the more

we are free to truly love. As Jesus receives from the Father, so does

the Love of God give us the ability to imitate Christ’s example of to-

tal and sacrificial love. On this Trinity Sunday, let us search our

hearts for the depths of love – the love of God. May the active Love

of God cleanse us, restore us, refresh us, and free us to live from the

Love in whose image and likeness we have been created.

Sacred Heart of Jesus

Catholic Medical Association Guild

First Friday Mass at St. Joseph Church, Spearfish, June 1st, 5:30 pm

The Catholic Church has always upheld the authen-tic practice of medicine and even fostered its pro-gress. It takes, however, a decided effort to remain faithful to true science, keep superstitious practices at bay, and at the same time uphold the moral prin-ciples of the natural law – and evermore so in our modern age of technology. The Catholic Medical As-sociation has been formed for this reason – to help you be a well-balanced, ethical and professional practitioner of medicine.

Msgr. Michael Woster, Fr. John Paul Trask and Dr. Forrest Brady invite medical professionals to this month’s CMA mass. It will be followed by an intro-duction to the Catholic Medical Association, as well as a presentation and discussion on the 50th anni-versary of the papal document by Paul VI, Humanae Vitae. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served. We have a firm intention of ending the evening before 8pm.

RSVP’s are not required, however if you wish to let us know you are coming or have any questions, please feel free to call Amy Julian at 605-716-5214.

Couples who chose NFP find they experience a wide range of benefits that go far beyond physical and health-related advantages. NFP is definitely safe, healthy and green, but it is also at least as effective as contraception sterilization), and many couples are happily surprised to find that it helps improve their relationship as well. NFP provides an all-natural morally acceptable way to plan your family and to monitor your gynecologic health.

The NFP Seminars are required for all couples plan-ning to marry in the Diocese of Rapid City, however they are open to anyone who is interested in learning more about Natural Family Planning. Attendees will options (besides have the opportunity to hear about the theology behind the use of NFP, a witness couple discussing the effect of NFP on their marriage, and the basics of one of the many sound, scientific meth-ods of NFP currently available today.

Please note that the NFP requirement for mar-riage preparation is met with this seminar.

Couples need to sign up for both the NFP Seminar and The Heart to Heart Weekend.
