Les Pastoureaux Waterloo Boys’ Choir

ABOUT US

Founded in 1974 by Bernard Pa-gnier, the Waterloo Boys’ Choir, Les Pastoureaux (literally: the Shepherd Boys), numbers more than 50 boys aged 7 to 14, ranging from soprano to alto, balanced by around 20 tee-nagers and adults singing as tenors and basses.

Around 20 choristers form a group called the Groupe Cantate: they are even more zealous boys who deve-lop additional skills in order to per-form more challenging musical pieces.

Les Pastoureaux have gained va-luable experience and international reputation based on more than 1,000 concerts performed in Bel-gium as well as concert tours around the world (all over Europe and North and South America, in Japan, etc.). Meeting each time an enthusiastic audience helps to strengthen their skills.

On several occasions, soloists of Les Pastoureaux have taken part in ope-ra productions, at the National Ope-

ra of Belgium (La Monnaie) and the Opera Company of Brooklyn.

Musical work and team spirit are at the heart of Les Pastoureaux’s pro-ject. In practice, the choir hold sec-tional rehearsals twice a week and meet for a full rehearsal every two weeks.

REPERTOIRE

Les Pastoureaux’s repertoire is wide and varied. They have performed works not only of the great Classical masters (Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mo-zart , Schubert, Mendelssohn, Franck, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, etc.), but also more modern composers (Ger-shwin, Poulenc, Britten, etc.), as well as some lesser known pieces from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Les Pastoureaux have recorded se-veral successful CDs, including Mo-zart’s Coronation Mass and Re-quiem, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, and Christmas songs and carols.
