Thank you for your interest in applying for an internship with Visit Belfast. There has never been a more
exciting time to work in tourism or with Visit Belfast, the city’s official Destination Marketing and Management
Company.
Visit Belfast has an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate currently studying for a relevant university
degree in marketing, communication, advertising or travel and tourism to join the Business Development
Team. Our internship programme lasts for one year – running from June/July 2018 to June/July 2019.
Reporting to the Leisure Trade Manager, you will be responsible for promoting Belfast as a top European
destination within the Leisure and Travel Trade segment which includes tour operators, travel trade and
leisure groups.
What skills will you develop?
During your internship you will be given the necessary mentoring and training to develop the following skills

Practical experience in the co-ordination, planning and delivery of sales and marketing activities in the
tourism industry.
Business development and relationship management skills.
Business to Business (B2B) sales and marketing skills.
Experience of dealing with leisure trade partners in ROI, GB, Europe, USA and China markets.
Experience of working with Visit Belfast industry partners.
Destination marketing skills.
Commercial acumen.
Planning and prioritising workload.
Communication and interpersonal skills.
Updating and managing leisure trade content on Visit Belfast marketing platforms including on digital
channels and across Visit Belfast guides and publications.

Location Visit Belfast’s head office and the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre (VBWC) are located at 9, Donegall Square North, Belfast, BT1 5GB. Visit Belfast also operates Visitor Information Centres (VICs) at George Best Belfast City Airport (GBBCA), Belfast International Airport (BIA) and ‘pop up’ information desks off-site, for example, on cruise ships or during conferences and events. Visit Belfast also has a satellite office in London.

Job Description POSITION: Leisure & Travel Trade Intern DEPARTMENT: Business Development REPORTING TO: Leisure Trade Sales Manager SALARY: £13,000
PURPOSE: Reporting to the Leisure Trade Sales Manager you will assist in the delivery of leisure and travel trade sales and marketing activity to promote Belfast as a top European tourism destination in line with the marketing strategy and objectives as set out in Visit Belfast’s annual business plan. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in the planning, coordination and management of leisure trade sales and marketing
activity including trade shows, exhibitions, events, telesales, direct marketing and other promotional activity as directed by the Leisure Trade Sales Manager. Attendance at key events as appropriate.
2. Assist in the generation of tour operator and group business through the conversion of sales
leads from attendance at trade shows, exhibitions and travel trade events and overseeing the maintenance and updating of the leisure trade contact database of clients.
3. To provide a comprehensive information service for travel trade and related enquiries. Provide an efficient and effective travel trade enquiry and referral service and identify and develop new sales leads from operators.
4. Assist in developing creative itineraries to help promote Belfast as a group tour destination
in ROI, GB, Europe, USA and China; showcasing Visit Belfast partner offerings and experiences for the group and travel trade sector.
5. Assist in developing and maintaining creative itineraries from Visit Belfast Partners for sales initiatives, travel trade publications and promotional platforms and to provide relevant content for the corporate website and marketing collateral.
6. Assist with the organisation of travel trade and cruise familiarisation trips to Belfast in
partnership with Visit Belfast partners, Tourism Northern Ireland, Tourism Ireland and Belfast Harbour. Meet, greet and accompany trade clients and provide information packs as required.
7. To promote travel trade sales and marketing platforms to Visit Belfast partners, securing
partner participation and income from commercial, industry and public sector partners.

8. Maintain and develop the leisure and travel trade database and CRM (customer relationship
management) system to ensure records and contacts are up to date, tasks are actioned and results from Visit Belfast activity are effectively monitored.
9. Maintain and update the cruise calendar. Provide product updates and itineraries for cruise shore-excursion providers.
10. Maintaining up to date information in the trade section of the website and calendar.
11. Assist in the recruitment of new Visit Belfast partners by passing leads to the partnership team and engage with current partners as appropriate.
12. Provide administrative and support as directed by the Leisure Trade Sales Manager.
13. Reporting to the Leisure Trade Sales Manager to ensure all financial procedures and budgets
in relation to individual projects are adhered to.
14. To be an ambassador for the Belfast brand, its essence and values in the performance of your role.
15. Assist in the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with Visit
Belfast partners, sponsors and other organisations as appropriate.
16. To undertake any other duties as required by the Leisure Trade Sales Manager, the Director of Business Development and the Visit Belfast senior management team.
OTHER:
1. To undertake, when necessary, work out of normal office hours.
