NEW PRODUCTS & LICENSES

NEW GR25 WLAN sales variant

There is a new sales variant of the GR25, which has a built-in WLAN adapter. From now on there will be two sales variants of the GR25:

GR25 BT with Bluetooth and GR25 WLAN with wireless LAN adapter built-in.

Each variant can be ordered as either the Basic, Performance or Professional package. The actual use of WLAN connectivity is an optional feature that need to be enabled by a license key (see next section below). It can be used for data streaming, Spider connections and access to the web interface, in addition to the other existing communication devices.

New GR25 WLAN license option

In order to activate the optional WLAN connectivity function on the GR25 WLAN variant a license key must be loaded. This needs to be purchased separately as well using following article number:

Art. No. Code Description 805687 GRL120 GR25 WLAN option (for GR25 WLAN ready units only)

By having a WLAN enabled hardware ready, by this optional licence you can decide by when you like to finally invest into the use of this new versatile functionality.

New Site Monitor license option

The site monitoring function, first introduced with v2.5, with its new enhanced functionality (see next section), is now protected by a licence option. To enable the Site Monitor the following license option must be purchased and loaded on the instrument:

Art. No. Code Description 774435 GRL114 Site Monitor option for GR GNSS receiver

REFWORX SOFTWARE - NEW FEATURES FOR GR10 AND GR25

Residential Gateway / Internet Connection Sharing

The GR-series servers can now act as a gateway to the internet for other connected devices without impact on other tasks. They can provide access to the internet for devices connecting through the LAN interface (Ethernet / WLAN). This allows simplifying the site setup and removing an internet router. One example is that if the mobile internet interface is used to access the internet, Ethernet or WLAN can be used to access the internet as well. In this way other computers or network devices attached to Ethernet or WLAN can access the internet through the GR10 or GR25.

To setup the residential gateway in the Web Interface go to [>Receiver Setup > Residential Gateway].

Backup communication

Backup communication configuration has been added to the redesigned page:

[>Receiver Setup > Network connections>].

The new tab “General” now combines configuration for: Receiver Hostname Default Gateway prioritisation Backup Communication

Further the backup communication behaviour has been improved in the way that now also outages on the internet provider side can be detected. If this happens, the respective interface will be marked as unusable and all other available interfaces will be considered to establish TCP connections. If the temporarily

unusable interface which is configured as default gateway becomes available again, the firmware will switch back to using the original default gateway again.

The main use case for using backup communication with Leica GNSS Spider is to use an Ethernet connection for the primary connection and mobile internet, e.g. via DynDNS, as secondary connection.

Site Monitor positioning modes

The site monitoring function, first introduced with v2.5, has been further enhanced with now three different positioning modes for different use cases:

“Reference Station” mode to monitor the stability of a pillar: This mode is designed for monitoring the stability of the antenna position of a reference station. It is optimised for long baselines as used within RTK networks. Movements will be detected with a high reliability while the positioning results are smoothed to prevent outliers from triggering false alarms.

“Monitoring” mode to monitor dams, bridges, landslides: In this mode the position calculation is optimised for monitoring applications with short baselines. Positioning results are less smoothed than in Reference Station mode as outliers are less likely. Therefore, a position change may be detected slightly faster than in Reference Station mode.

“Network RTK” mode to compute positions as on a rover: This mode allows to evaluate the performance of a surveying rover working within an RTK Network. It applies the same computational settings for positioning as are used on a Leica Viva Rover system. This mode can be used to examine the behaviour of a potential rover system working in the proximity of this reference station location.

With all three modes any kind of reference data stream type can be used such as a single base or Leica MAX network solution. The calculated RTK positions can be sent via NMEA output stream to Leica SpiderQC or another external application, where triggers and alarms can be defined to notify in case that certain thresholds are exceeded. Supported NMEA position messages are GGA, GGQ, GGK, GLL, GNS and GSA.

To setup a Site Monitor in the Web Interface go to [>GNSS Management > Data streams > Incoming data streams].

Then add a new stream of type “Real Time” and follow the set up wizard. The new positioning modes can then be selected as shown here:

Automatic Firmware download and installation

An automatic download and/or the automatic installation of new firmware can now be configured.

To configure this go to: [>Receiver Setup > Tools > Firmware > ]

The installation can be done at a specific time of the day or right after the download. Alternatively, a user defined FTP server can be used to download the firmware file. This can be useful if the GRxx has no direct internet access or new firmware is to be tested before rolling it out on all servers within a network.

Zipped firmware file supported

From RefWorx v3.00 onwards now also zipped firmware files can be handled directly. This decreases the file size by 50%. This is beneficial when upgrading the firmware in cases that only a low bandwidth internet connection is available.

Galileo Navigation Data Support

Galileo IOV navigation data can now be logged with RINEX2 and RINEX3 files, and is now also contained in LB2 (E) data streams.

Note: IOV (In-Orbit Validation) satellites are still dedicated to validate the satellite system operation and thus may provide invalid navigation data or no navigation data at all. This may cause that no Galileo navigation data may be available at certain times even if it is configured in a RINEX logging session and/or a LB2 data stream.

It may also be necessary to force the health setting of certain or all Galileo satellites to “Healthy” in order to track them. However, this is not recommended within productive GNSS services, and should only be used in evaluation or test setups. Invalid Galileo observation or navigation data may have a negative impact on the general tracking behaviour and/or overall system operation.

RefWorx GR10_GR25 Release Notes v3.00_en_v2.doc Page 9

BINEX navigation data support for GLO, GAL & SBAS

Streaming of navigation data for GLONASS, Galileo and SBAS satellite systems in a BINEX format stream is now supported. When enabled the relevant navigation data is output when its available from the satellite.

Oscillator Fallback If an external oscillator is configured and fails, it is now possible to configure an automatic fall-back to the internal oscillator.

After the switch to the internal oscillator, it is only possible to do a manual switch back to the external oscillator using the “Revert” button that will be shown in the configuration page.

Ntrip Mount point shown in Status – Data Stream

Ntrip mount point information is now shown within the Data Stream status page [>Status > Data Stream].

The Ntrip mount point information is shown in brackets following the “Connection: port” information.

Leica AR20 as default antenna

The following new Leica AR20 choke ring antennae have been added to the list of default antenna devices.

AR20 (no radome) AR20 LEIM (with Leica radome for AR20)

FTP-Push – Use of temporary file

The FTP push has been improved to use a temporary file name for a file that is currently in progress of being transferred to the destination FTP server. The file name of the file in progress now has a temporary name extension of “*_uploading.*”. Once the transfer is complete the file name extension will be removed from the file on the FTP destination server.

FTP-Push – No target directory structure required

The creation of a FTP-subdirectory structure following the directory naming convention for on-board data logging can now be disabled.

An option has been added to the Logging session configuration allowing to ignore the directory naming convention for the automated FTP transfer.

Leica GFU28 support

The Leica GFU28 Telit 3.5G (same device as SLG1) is now available in the device management as individual default device.

RINEX 3 – Meteo & Auxilliary data files

With RINEX v3.01 logging format now also meteorological and auxiliary (tilt) device data files can be created.

REFWORX SOFTWARE – IMPROVEMENTS & OPTIMISATIONS

New Measurement Engine Firmware (6.113)

A new measurement engine firmware v6.113 is included in RefWorx v3.00 which contains a number of general tracking behaviour improvements.

TCP/IP & Ntrip re-connect

The re-connect behaviour for Ntrip and TCP/IP connections has been improved, when either the Ntrip IP-port or mount point may not be reachable or available.

When the Ntrip IP-port cannot be reached the system will attempt a reconnect every 10 seconds for an unlimited time.

When an Ntrip Mount Point failure occurs, then a reconnect is attempted every 10 seconds for up to 30 minutes.

BT to handle multiple clients

The BT interface has been improved to allow multiple devices connecting simultaneously. Pre-requisite for this is that the connecting devices do have different BT IP-addresses.

SD-Card optimisation

Optimisations to the SD-card now provide improved read/write speed. This assists installations with high data logging demand.

Vaisala WXT520 – optimised initialisation

The initialisation sequence for the Vaisala WXT520 meteorological device has been optimised to more reliably initialise the device correctly.

Further, during the initialisation sequence no longer the Vaisala heating configuration is set. This allows to manually (using the "Vaisala Configuration Tool") enable device heating where needed.

Note: Heating function on a Vaisala WXT520 does require separate power that is not provided with the standard Leica GEV257/258 WXT520 cable for GR receivers.

Display of firmware version for SLG1 devices

The status display for SLG1 mobile phone devices has been enhanced to correctly display the installed firmware version.

Previously problems related to outdated firmware caused devices to be returned to service. Now please always first ensure latest firmware is loaded in case of problem with such a device.

Language optimisations

Various optimisation for non-English web server languages have been done including the following:

French: Problem with license activation button

Brazilian/Portuguese: Delete logging session did not work.

Galileo satellite health status

The default health status for Galileo satellites has been changed to “Auto"(-matic). However, the almanac for Galileo IOV satellites may still be

Page 12: Leica GR10/GR25 RefWorx V3 · upgrade, so that new features can be seen in the web interface and are not ... There is a new sales variant of the GR25, which has a built-in WLAN adapter

RefWorx GR10_GR25 Release Notes v3.00_en_v2.doc Page 12

invalid or incorrect at times. Therefore we recommend setting the health status for these satellites manually to forced "healthy", if tracking shall be done regardless.

Mobile Static IP The handling of a static IP address with a mobile internet connection has been optimised.

Previously it could occur that a static IP, that was defined for a mobile internet device, has been incorrectly interpreted.

Note: The mobile static IP address and thus the connection may get lost during the upgrade to RefWorx V3.00. When the mobile connection is the only access to the receiver, a firmware upgrade to V3.00 must be done locally e.g. via USB connection, to allow the mobile static IP to be reconfigured correctly.

ME firmware version number

The decimal places of the version number for the measurement engine firmware will now also be handled correctly if they are >=*.128.

KNOWN ISSUES

Changed root directory

The SD Card folder structure stays the same as for GR10 version 1.0, but the root directory shown after log in by FTP will change to a higher level, so that USB devices can be accessed.

This change has been introduced with RefWorx v2.0.

Supported disk formats

Disk formats supported by the GR10/25 are the following: SD-cards: FAT16 or FAT32 External USB devices: FAT16 or FAT32 and ExFAT.

The NTFS is not supported.

Also note, when using external USB storage devices that the power requirements are within the standards for USB (i.e. (5 V±5% , 100 mA). Some devices, such as high-speed external disk drives, require more than 500 mA of current and therefore may have power issues if powered from the GR10/25. In these cases a USB device with separate power supply or the use of a powered USB Hub is recommended.

SD Card Required For Normal Operation

In order to operate the GR10/25 normally, it is highly recommended to always have an SD card inserted. This also applies to formatting the System RAM but keeping the communication settings. Without an SD card the communication settings will not be available after formatting the receiver settings. Therefore, the times that the GR is running but no SD card is inserted should be kept to an absolute minimum to guarantee normal operation.

SLG1 and CSD Some mobile network providers do not support CSD in UMTS networks. To still make use of this feature with the SLG1 the “Init string 2” needs to be changed to force the SLG1 to use the GSM network.

To change this go to: [Receiver setup > Device management > GSM / CSD initialization] -> Set [Init string 2] as follows:

"AT+CBST=^S,0,^C^MAT+WS46=12^M" (without apostrophe) for GSM only mode
