    Pate Swap Meet

For the third year in a row Legends club sponsored a booth at the Pate Swap Meet at Texas Motor Speedway. It has become well-known among our Legends members for being a great place to stop, rest, have lunch and a cold one during a day of “junking”. Plus a few people have cleared their garages of excess parts. We set up the booth on Wednesday, April 27. Bill Preston planned and prepared lunch and dinner Thursday and Saturday. The threat of rain on Friday kept most of us home, but I understand that a couple of hardy souls went out to sell some prized Corvette parts. Thanks to Dan Jacobs, Jerry Echols, Tom Entrekin, Gary Wil-liams, Mark Elliott, Tom Douglas, Sam Deneault, Jack Stewart and Kevin Shedden for coming out to work the booth. JC Cherry, Bob Rockett and Joe and Kathryn Maulsby stopped by too. We seem to have sold most of our extra stuff, so Legends is not going to sponsor a booth next year. Perhaps we’ll do it again in a couple of years.

    Club Shirts & Hats

by Jack “Rude Dog” Hays I attended the AER Spring Classic car show on May 7 at Sam Pack’s museum in Carrollton. This year they placed all Corvettes in one class. At the end of the awards ceremony they awarded three class trophies to Danny Barboza from Denton and Gordon Moore, both with sweet 61’s and my 1965 Glen Green Coupe, known to you as “Vetzilla”. At the end they gave out top awards to the 16 cars that received the most votes regardless of class. I was shocked, that out of about 250 cars, Vettzilla was awarded a Top 16 award! Thanks to all the Legends members who helped me restore my trusted ‘65.

It’s Time to Say Goodbye On April 13, 2016, by vote of the board, we made the decision to cease Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show. We have made this decision with careful consideration for the attendants, the board, and the cause alike. Our decision behind this was based on several rea-sons, one of them being board members expressing to us they would not be able to commit to the foundation due to health reasons or upcoming obligations. In 14 years since Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show began, we have donated to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth and UNT Health Science over $440,000. This money helped in many ways for treatment and research for prostate cancer. Dr. Lacko, of UNT Health Science, has been able to employ an extra person and just recently received two patents on treat-ment for prostate cancer due to our donations. Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show has tested over 20,000 men and made over 1,300 of them aware of potential issues and were sent for follow up tests. This was a hard decision to be made. We are pleased with the success and accomplishments of the foundation, the board members and what were able to provide to the community. Thank you for your support throughout the years. Sincerely, Chris Goetz

Founder of Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure

    “Wheels for Wellness”Saturday, September 17, 2016

Downtown Fort Worth Car Show May 24, 2016 As you may be aware, a decision was recently made by the founder of the Cowtown Cruisin for a Cure founda-tion to dissolve the foundation. It was a good organiza-tion dedicated to a very good cause and did some very positive things during its existence. I am proud of my past association with it. With that being said, several of the past board mem-bers, including myself, feel that there is still a lot more to be done and clearly want to continue putting on the Downtown Fort Worth Car Show. Therefore we are in the process of establishing a new 501c3 non-profit founda-tion “Wheels for Wellness” and are pleased to inform you that the car show will once again take place. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2016. We are in the process of developing new flyers, forms, website, etc. and anticipate having the online registration available by the first of June. Our goal is to make things bigger and better. We are excited about the future. Any assistance in getting the word out to the local Car community is appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.

    Sincerely, Cris LofgrenWheels for Wellness
