Dear All, It is with no hidden pleasure that I welcome you as always to Wrocław’s

museums. You are cordially invited to visit all the permanent as well as

temporary exhibitions. Today’s occasion is exceptional – Museum Night.

We are used to museums being art institutions, serious and stately, hiding

precious museum pieces. Unfortunately often these dignified buildings, or

more likely their aura, intimidate many of us; they don’t invite friendship.

That’s why I suggest we leave that stiffness aside and take part in the

fantastic endeavor that Museum Night is. In these extraordinary circum-

stances, under the cover of night, let’s start our adventure with art along

with our families and friends.

It’s impossible to visit everywhere in one night; that’s why I suggest

treating it more as an incentive to a longer and more serious relationship.

Admission to these museums and institutions is free of charge in Wrocław

that is why I highly urge you to return to these places multiple times and

to enjoy the collections in peace.

Although a museum is a house of artifacts, without visitors it loses

its rationale. Alas, art pieces are preserved for people! That is why each

opportunity to invite visitors, I treat as valuable and worth-taking. I am

convinced that the presence of culture in life increases its quality, that’s

why I support every method of convincing Wrocławians of that as well.

I welcome you to Museum Night.

See you there!

what herbs they grew on the monastery’s patio, what their typical day was

like. We will also talk about the primary museum functions of the rooms.

For children, we have prepared rebus and illuminator workshops in which

they will learn the secrets of the medieval art of decorating books.

You are welcome to see the exhibitions and presentations of archive and

contemporary photographs presenting the history of the church and the

Bernardine order.

At the end of the XIX century around Wrocław a ring of war structures

was built. One of them was Fort Piechoty No. 9 at ul. Pełczyńska 33. We

are setting up a Social Mobile Military Museum there. The Fort, after the

renovation, will serve future generations for a longer time and will pro-

vide the possibility of educating students. The Military Museum will be

the opposite of typical museums, where you may not touch the exhibits

and the touring has to be done in absolute silence. It will be a genuine

place where exhibits will be shown, where you’ll be able to go into them,

take weapons in your hand, feel the atmosphere of that time, listen to the

roaring of the engines and watch military exercises. It will engage entities

representing different milieus (historic reenactment groups, researchers

of the city’s history, military fans, fans of Wrocław ’s underground, to

whom we will make the Museum’s premises available. During Museum

Night the interior of the bunker and the outdoor practice range with the

historic military vehicles and weapons will be open for viewing and we

will paint faces with masks. The fort will be lit up at night. In addition

we are planning to set up a parking lot near the museum. The program

includes: an individual tour of the bunker’s interior; a military outdoor

camp, the exhibition of historic military vehicles and weapons; 50 years

of the TV series “Czterej pancerni i pies” [Four tank-men and a dog] (an

exhibition of archive photograms from the production of the TV show from

50 years ago, and an all night screening of the show); military songs; face

painting with masking paints.

Media Art WRO 2015 – an international contemporary art review – the biggest

in Poland. It is a great opportunity to see all of the exhibits of the Biennale in

many institutions and locations in Wrocław. “Cultivated Cultures”, one of the

exhibitions of the Biennale WRO 2015, presents installations which focus on

the relationship between nature, art and technology. Is it possible to create

a mutual kingdom with successive kinds of ants for 20 years? Are small shellfish

able to influence how a computer’s operating system functions? How to grow

tomatoes via the internet while creating a musical score at the same time? The

answers to these and many similar questions which are sure to come up during

the author-guided exhibit await you at the WRO Art Center! It’s the first time,

the University Library’s new building, has been made so freely available to the

public. It is the place where many of the program’s projects will be presented

and in addition will house one of the main exhibitions of WRO 2015. Visitors,

regardless of their age, will be met there by trained Art Guides who will be ready

Awangarda Gallery invites you to “The life of an artist in the second half

of the 20th century” – an exhibition by Krzysztof Wałaszek. This mono-

graphic exhibition by the Wrocław artist Krzysztof Wałaszek gathers and

sums up works from different periods of artistic creativity. It’s a humorous

story but also full of moral intricacies in the stormy time of the end of

the 20th century, along with a disenchanted outlook on the 21st century.

At the Awangarda Gallery, Krzysztof Wałaszek and the curator Anna

Markowska have prepared an exhibition which comprises works done in

various techniques – paintings on canvas, graphic art, sculptures, objects

and ready-mades, the creation of which was inspired by our socio-political

life. In the paintings and objects we see the collective iconosphere of Poles,

the absurdities of everydayness both socialist and capitalist. The artist

focuses on the topic of the contemporary commercialization of social life

and the fact that such terms as truth, faith, patriotism or family have lost

their deeper meaning.

context shows up not only in her extensive knowledge of designing tech-

niques, but also in the topics of her work which are inspired by the reality

of a playground. Despite her young age, she has already managed to find

story which in its diversity refers to old collections. The narrative created

like this may be interpreted on many levels, and the direction of sightseeing

suggested in the title is only one of many possibilities. Free from following

linear history and gaining knowledge we do not have to start upstairs

from the left and finish downstairs on the right. The collection, creating

a kind of cloud on the walls of the gallery, only suggests the direction it

be viewed, by its shape. At the same time, it is a negation of the order tied

to culture, which is expressed through i.e. our way of reading and writing.

rejuvenating and bring on the discovery of unexpected plots.

During this year’s Museum Night we welcome you to a unique exhibition

at Gallery M Odwach – it’s very important for us and for Wrocław; an ex-

hibition that we have been trying for years to organize and finally we have

happily succeeded. With great pride and pleasure we will present a few

dozen paintings by Tadeusz Wroński (1924–1998), an exceptional artist

from Wrocław, whose works will see the light of the day for the first time in

many years. Tadeusz Wroński was born in 1924 in Skarżysko Kamienna,

he studied at the National Art School of Higher Education in Wrocław in

the workshops of professor Maria Dawska and professor Eugeniusz Gep-

pert. He lived and created in Wrocław, in his legendary workshop, which

became the regular meeting place of artists and friends. He died in 1998

and with his death his beautiful paintings were slowly being forgotten; no

shows of his works were organized after the artist’s death, and they were

slowly getting covered with a layer of dust dispersed in many collections.

The oeuvre of Tadeusz Wroński is exceptionally particular, coherent and

important for the culture of Wrocław. In this exhibition we want to bring

it back to the contemporary public and interest younger generations in

it; also, we would like to give the art work a real chance to enter the art

market of Poland once again. Exhibition dates 16–26 May 2015.

This year you are invited to the exhibition “Without Prescription – an

abstract dose of color”. This interdisciplinary exhibition full of intense

geometric abstracts is something for those who are hungry for positive

energy. This is a large dose of color in a geometric form – painting works,

video works, structures, graphic art works ... Without a prescription, with-

out limits – without side effects! The exhibition is a part of the 2nd edition

of the project “Run towards art” (Pęd do sztuki) which is a combination of

the artists’ works our exhibition in the gallery and a city street run. This

innovative combination of aesthetic culture and physical activity is not

just a simple way to popularize science but a surprising excuse to visit

the exhibition and an excellent opportunity to include a wider public in

artistic activities which are sometimes so distant from daily life.

During Museum Night we will present an exhibition entitled “Bustlers”,

presenting works by Bettina Bereś, Sian Bonnell, Pamela Bożek-Żurawska,

Grażyna Brylewska, Iwona Demko, Dorota Hadrian-Surowiec, Małgorzata

Markiewicz, Regina Pemsl, Paulina Poczęta, Ewa Potocka, Pirko Julia

Schröder, Katja Then, Teresa Wiechova, Anja Schoeller, Blanka Dem-

bosz and Paulina Załubska. Curators: Iwona Demko and Renata Kopyto.

The exhibition was prepared by the Nuremberger House and the General

Consulate of Germany in Kraków.

The first time the term ‘bustlers’ appeared in Jolanta Brach-Czaina’s book

“Szczeliny istnienia” (Crevices of Existence). The essay gave credit to the

mundane, everyday work of women, so called ‘bustling’ during which thou-

sands of activities are done every day, time and time again, each time from

the beginning – which eats up a lot of energy and time; activities which go

unseen and, by and large, unappreciated. Everydayness as Brach-Czaina

writes is the “convicted reality which also convicts us to forgetting” and

art may save it from being forgotten. The artists from Poland, Germany

and England who have taken up this theme, on the one hand refer to their

precursors, painters and sculptors who were once limited by the bour-

geoisie corset, on the other they extend it by their own experiences and

using the freedom they have gained, give it new meanings. In their work

they not only play with the stereotypes ascribed to women but also with

the arduous work and they rebel against its unfair distribution.

Presentations will be accompanied by events and workshops such as:

painting wall tapestries, making pierogi (dumplings), a fair with home-

made preserves and handicrafts.

During Museum Night, the Humanitarium offers a viewing of an interactive

exhibition “Lens and eye – the secrets of optics” and scientific shows for chil-

dren. The shows will run every 15 minutes after the viewers enter the exhibi-

tion room. “Lens and eye – the secrets of optics” is a new exhibition which will

take us to the world in which nothing is what it seems. Diffraction and light

interference, vanishing lens, photo-electric effects... sound unfamiliar? The

educational path will help you understand the most difficult issues of optics

and the interactive museum pieces will make you remember the things you

have learn. At the exhibition learning is interwoven with play. What does it

feel like to be trapped in a kaleidoscope or a fly on a broom? How long will you

last in the “mad” room? At the Humanitarium you will find responses to all

these questions. The exhibition is open for all age groups: from pre-school
