Field Searching This will restrict the search to one or more of the specific fields within a Journal Article record. For example, if you want to locate a case that has been cited by an article, enter the case citation into the Case Citation field or party names into the Case Name field and click Search. Searching for Case References Use the Case Name or Case Citation fields to locate references to a case within a Journal Article record. Case references will appear in the abstract (paragraph) for ALJI, full text Journal articles, article title and cases cited sections of a record. Example 1: To search for references to Chappel v Hart Step 1. Enter Chappel Hart into the Case Name box and click Search. TIPS: • When searching case names, enter the individual party names with spaces between them. You do not need to

include “v” or “and” between party names. • For cases involving the Crown as one of the parties, you can leave out “R” and just enter the other party name(s). Example 2: To search for references to Booth v Bosworth (2001) FCA 1453 Step 1. Enter 2001 FCA 1453 into the Case Citation box and click Search Note: Unreported cases have been cited in ALJI in two distinct formats. To ensure you do not miss a case citing reference use both methods demonstrated in this example. Step 2. Enter Booth Bosworth into the Case Name box and 2001 into the Case Citation box Step 3. Click Search Searching for Legislation References Use the legislation cited field to locate references to legislation cited in a Journal Article Record. Example 3: To search for references to the Fair Trading Act 1987 (NSW) Step 1. Enter Fair Trading Act 1987 NSW into the Legislation Cited box and click Search. Note: In ALJI the Legislation Cited field lists Act Names and Jurisdiction only – No Sections. To search for references to a section or provision of an Act in (ALJI only) enter the Act name and section number into the Free Text Search (see Free Text Search help). Example 4: To search for references to section 324 of the Corporations Act Step 1. Enter Corporations Act 324 into the Legislation Cited box Step 2. Click Search. Searching by Journal Title Use the Journal Title Search box to limit a search to a specific Journal publication. Example 5: To search for articles from the Company and Securities Law Journal Step 1. Enter Company Securities Law into the Journal Title box Step 2. Click Search Or Step 1. Select Australian Law Journal from the All Titles drop-down list. (Only Journal titles published by Thomson
