ADMIRALTY FLEET ORDERLEGAL ASSISTANCE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

The following Order having been approved by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty is hereby promulgated for information and guidance and necessary action.

To all Commanders-in-Chief, Flag Officers, Senior Naval Officers,Captains and Commanding Officers o f H.M. Ships and Vessels, Super­intendents or Officers in Charge of H.M . Naval Establishments, and Admiralty Overseers concerned.

Note :—The scale of distribution is approximately half that shown in the Admiralty Fleet Order Volume, 1941, Instructions, paragraph 10.

2. Where legal assistance is obtained locally, the offij is, when first communicating with him, to state that the “ agency terms ” . The agent should also be requested t bill to the officer instructing him. The bill is to be fori that the agent was so instructed and duly attended, o: stated, and then be forwarded to the Treasury Solicitor,S.W .l, for payment. The latter does not require a copy o be forwarded to the Admiralty in all cases.

3. Traffic Accidents.— In all cases o f inquests or policy proceedings arising from traffic accidents, the procedure laid down in paragraph 23 o f A.F.O. 670/43, is to be followed.
