MR. TB KOLACorporate Services Manager
She was nominated by Tällberg Foundation as one of
the five extraordinary women who have responded to
leadership challenges of the 21st century, the
previous public protector was a remarkable woman
and leader. She has left us a legacy and in her moving
out, left a higher level upon which the new Public
protector had to reach. She still continues to move up
the leadership ranks in the various portfolios she is
holding.
The old adage that goes: “Leaders work themselves
out of positions” is as true today as it was years back.
In the same breath, it is true that true leaders don't
create followers but leaders. In the years gone by,
South Africa has great leaders far and wide, politically,
educationally, and across the whole spectrum, men
and women of all ages taking South Africa to a higher
level with sheer leadership qualities and attributes.
Same is said about the current Vice Chancellor of the
University of Cape Town, Professor Mmamokgethi
Phakeng who has received accolades at her age that
puts her as not an academic but a leader of substance.
Having obtained a PhD in Mathematics Education in
2002 made her the first black African woman in South
Africa to obtain such a qualification. She is the founder
of the , a non-profit Adopt-a-learner Foundation
organisation that started in 2004 and provides
financial support to learners from townships and rural
areas to acquire higher education. The list of her
accolades is endless and to that we say Bravo to her
and all the women in leadership positions.
To our Advocate Makinde, you have left your footprints
which will remain embedded in the history of the entity.
May you continue to touch other lives positively so.
LEADERS WORK THEMSELVES OUT OF
POSITIONS
Celebrating women's month and the departure of our
Board secretariat, Advocate S.O Makinde, I am
compelled to reflect on two women of substances
whose roles and appointments cannot be overstated,
UCT Vice chancellor, Professor Mmamokgethi
Phakeng and Advocate Thuli Madonsela.

As people are encouraged to give 67 minutes of their
time to do good for others under the sub themes Food
and security, Education and literacy, Shelter and
infrastructure, Volunteerism and Creating a caring
society, the NWHC took half day from their busy offices
to spend at the feeding centre to help out by painting
their premises, cooking as well as gardening. Mr.
Machaba the Deputy Manager Secretariat who was
also part of the event said, “I believe today I have made than impact in someone's life because I view the 18 of
July as a day to honor the legacy of Nelson Mandela and
his values through creating a positive effect on others
around us”.
The event was graced with a powerful verse by Tshepo Lethoba who was also part of giving back to the centre and committed himself to making sure that the garden was well taken care of. The management and the employees of the Entity were
hands on in terms of assisting in painting the hall of the centre, cooking lunch for the beneficiaries, helping in the garden as well as cleaning.
The residents at Community Life Changes Project
feeding centre in Mahikeng were delighted to have
received food hampers and painting materials from th
the Northwest Housing Corporation on the 18 of
July 2018 in celebration of Mandela day. Ms Hazel Williams who is the founder of the centre was overwhelmed with contentment and appreciation for the donations they received from NWHC. “Sometimes it gets very hard to cater for people who come to the center on a daily basis but giving up has never crossed my mind because I know and believe that times of lack don't last forever. On behalf of the centre, we are very pleased to have been part of such a wonderful initiative because it changed our lives today” said Ms Hazel. The feeding centre provides food to over 100 community members in and around Danville and Lomanyaneng on a regular basis however funds itself often under resourced.
The Entity's Corporate Services Manager Mr. Kola who was also one of the speakers was pleased to see the residents excited by the donations received. This is part of corporate social investment and we will strive to support such initiatives in future.

“To effectively achieve managing your capital it begins with a well-crafted Financial Plan. The Financial Plan should be seen as the blue-print which clearly establishes the goals and objectives and the steps both short and long term to achieve its ends, it is with the effort at the end of the day”, said the financial adviser Mr Tshepo.
The North West Housing Corporation invites CAPITEC to provide financial advice to its employees
“I'm very pleased to have been part of such an enlightening session because really trying to save money can be difficult at times, achieving financial goals are merely a means to an end. Not only did I learn about managing my finances, I also have a clear insight of how to invest my money with Capitec”, said Mr. E Masae who attended the session.
It's common for employees to face financial worries at various stages of their lives, having to deal with spiraling debts, savings and simply making monthly budget. This can sometimes lead to financial stress for employees resulting in increased absenteeism levels and not being able to use money wisely. Therefore, the communications unit together with the Corporate services manager called financial advisers from Capitec to share valuable knowledge on finances in order to deliver financial wellbeing programs to its employees.
“The idea of focusing on employee health and wellbeing took off simply because it was the right thing to do, hence good advice from an experienced professional would help our
employees create a financial plan that is realistic”, said Mr. T Kola the corporate services manager.
