THE 2013-2014 SCHOOLYEAR ISANG BAGSAK! Everyday in all LEGACY classrooms we begin and end each day with the
UNITY clap and close out by saying, isang bagsak ! Isang bagsak is intagalog, a Filipino language which translates into one down! academic school year and we couldnt be moreproud of all of our youth. Our first graduatingclass set the bar with 100% graduation rate and
walked the stage with their heads held up high holding their earned high school diploma. All of our youth, from 10th grade to 12th grade brought their struggles, their commitment, their hunger, thereGANAS and their hearts each day. We say LEGACY isn't hard work, its HEART work. Join us in our2nd issue where we dedicate it to our youth founders and graduating class of 2014!

The Napa Valley CollegePUENTE Program and theLEGAY Youth Project haveteamed up to form a highschool to college pipeline in ourNapa Valley. PUENTE is aCalifornia state wide programand its mission is to increasethe number of educationallyunderrepresented students inf o u r - y e a r c o l l e g e s a n duniversities.
During the 2014 Springsemester, the PUENTE team visited the LEGACYclassroom as guest speakers and tutors to helpour seniors apply to college. PUENTE also hostedour LEGACY youth on a Napa Valley College tourand during spring break the PUENTE Club andLEGACY Youth Project took a tour of the UCLAcollege campus during our annual field trip toLos Angeles. The partnership between PUENTEand LEGACY has created a real home-grown highschool to college pipeline for our Napa Valley.

Success! A major component to the LEGACY Youth Project is our Academic Achievement. One way we make this happen isthrough the support and leadership from our Tutors/Mentors,a.k.a Young Community Leaders. Each week the LEGACYclass is visited by 8 Napa Valley College students, 4 communityprofessionals and 4 Vintage High School students who all
volunteer their time to support the academicsuccess of our LEGACYstudents . One greatoutcome to the tutoringe x p e r i e n c e i s t h e

members. Youth founder and graduate Arturo Rubio says, LEGACY is thegreatest thing that happen to me and Idevote my life to LEGACY and my
brothers. We are very proud of ArturoRubio, Nick Lopez, Josue Herrera,

During spring break, theLEGACY Youth Project hit theroad to Los Angeles! Our AnnualEducational Field Trip to Los
Angeles is a great opportunityfor our youth to spend a fewdays visiting a college, the beach,and a full day with our greatfriends at Homeboy Industries.
After an adventurous drive downsouth, the next morning we
teamed up with the Puente Club of Napa Valley College an took the We Belong Here college tour atthe University California Los Angles. We spent the rest of the day at VeniceBeach and had some amazing street tacos in East Los Angeles for dinner. The
next day was spent at HomeboyIndustries (see next page). Our
Annual Educational Field Trip toL.A. is a transformative experiencesfor our LEGACY youth.

Day 2 on our Los Angeles FieldTrip we spent the entire day atHomeboy Industries. Since thelaunching of the LEGAC
Youth Project in 2013 we havef o r g e d a v e r y s p e c i arelationship with HomeboyIndustries of Los Angeles. Likethe LEGACY Youth ProjecH o m e b o y I n d u s t r i e s i sdedicated to supporting itsmembers toward a life opositive transformation. Our
youth had the opportunity toeat at Homegirl Cafe, take atour of Homeboy Industriesand engage in dialogue with
many of its members. Someof our youth participated ina live workshop. We alsoparticipated in an art
workshop with HomeboyIndustries that was led byFabian Debora. He is theExecu t ive Di rec to r oLatino Producers ActionNetwork. We are blessed toh a v e t h i s a m a z i nrelationship with HomeboyIndustries and look forward
to a continued partnership.

The LEGACY Youth Project launched its first Summer Camp this past summer! Our Annual SummerCamp is a way to continue to support our youth and provide them with opportunities. This summer our
Camp focused on career development, leadership, team building andlife skill development and acommunity responsive project.
Our first day was spent withthe Mariposa Program, andCLARA/CLARO (ChangingLatina/0s to Access Resourcesand Opportunities) Program.
All three programs teamed upfor the 1st Annual YouthUnited Conference! Our
programs are committed to b u i l d i n g L a t i n o y o u t hleadership, building positiver e l a t i o n s h i p s t h r o u g hcollaboration, learning from
each other and providing positive opportunities for our young women and men. The youth led andfacilitated workshops and team buildingactivities.
On our second day our youth took aresume workshop and built their resumes.
Our third day was spent in San Francisco.Thanks to the support and partnership withBank of America Merrill Lynch of Napa andNapa Valley Film Festival our LEGACY
youth had an opportunity to see a SanFrancisco Giantsgame! Some of our

opportunity to go onto the field andmeet some of the professional
baseball players. The stadium screeneven gave a visual shout out to theLEGACY Youth Project!
Our fourth day was a teamhike in Napa Valleys Skyline Parkand our final day of Summer Camp
was dedicated to our CommunityProject Response (CPR) where our
youth engaged in graffiti removaland helped to clean up our Napa
Valley. (pictures on next page)

The LEGACY Youth Project values the health of our youth. Hiking has been a great way to stay physically active and creates opportunities for our youth to bond and create familia.

The LEGACY Youth Project is committed to community building and cultivating positive, healthy, collaborative andmeaningful relationships with our families and community.This spring semester we engaged with our community innumerous ways. Our families come first as we held two Family/Parent nights, culminating in our annual Honoring ourFamilies and Students Night. In addition, we were very activein our Napa Valley community from working with communitypartner Rancho Gordo in our youth job skill developmentinternship program, having many visitors visit the LEGACYheadquarters, going live on local Napa TV on the N.A.P.AShow, and much more. We are grateful for the support of ourfamilies and community!

One of our components to the LEGACY Youth Project isour Life Skills and Leadership Development. Our youth getmany opportunities in the class room and community topractice and develop their leadership skills. This semester
we presented to community funders, the Napa County Youth
Violence and Gang Commission, LEGACY new membership orientation, middle school parents,Senior graduation projects and much more. In addition, our youth are given opportunities to learnlife skills and ways that will equip them with the tools to be successful in high school and beyond.
