Welcome to the Legacy Sale X

Dear Texas Longhorn Lovers,

Welcome to the 2014 Texas Longhorn Legacy Sale X – the most elaborate event of the year for Longhorn breeders across the country. Now celebrating its tenth year, the Legacy Sale has a rich history of setting new standards for the Longhorn industry by establishing new records and providing the highest dollar averages in the business. This is possible because the Legacy committee recruits only the finest quality Longhorn cattle – a group of cattle which always draws an audience of the top breeders and prospective breeders from across the nation.

Although the Legacy Sale features Longhorn cattle that set new standards for the breed every year, this year’s lineup is truly something special to behold. Never before in the history of the breed has a 90” TTT cow been sold. Legacy X will not only feature this historic first, but will also sell an all-time high number of 80” TTT cows and future 80” heifers. These cattle are being offered by a near record number of consignors from across the country. What a great opportunity to find the kind of cattle that can be beneficial to every breeder in the industry.

For this special occasion, the Legacy will be conducted at the luxurious Embassy Suites Outdoor World in Grapevine, Texas. Located near the DFW airport, the Embassy Suites offers a perfect venue for this special event, with spacious dining and lounge areas. Plus, it is convenient to shopping and many other nearby attractions. The friendly Embassy Suites management and staff are committed to providing you a very special weekend.

So join us for a fun weekend with good friends. You’ll be surrounded by fun people, great food, excitement, and best of all – breath-taking Longhorns. It is a one-of-a-kind event that could only take place with Texas Longhorn cattle and the people who love them!

On behalf of all the sponsors and consignors of the 2014 Texas Longhorn Legacy Sale X, thank you for being here. We hope you have a great time!

Sincerely,

The Sponsors & Consignors of the Texas Longhorn Legacy Sale X

The historical sheep and goat country of the Edwards Plateau is hard for most of the beef industry breeds. This is where Rick Carroll has established an ever growing and flourishing Longhorn herd, despite the rugged terrain. Since the purchase of his first heifer in 2004, Rick has attended some of the top sales, where he selectively purchased Longhorns that would add desirable traits to an ever growing herd of big horned cattle. With his A-I program, Rick has been able to incorporate the top pedigrees in the industry. Although Houston is his place of business, the beautiful limestone bluffs of Edwards County is where you will find him during his free time, among his herd that he loves and has sought to preserve.

Jason Carter has been involved with raising Longhorns for 15 years and took over the Carter Ranch operation in 2010. He spends most of his time managing major retail construction accounts, and the rest of his time managing his Longhorn herd. He is always working to improve the quality of his herd by using the top genetics in the industry. His herd is greatly influenced with Bob Loomis breeding by using Shrek Chex and more recently Sam Chex 708, both acquired from the Loomis Ranch. Jason also serves as Vice President for the Texas Longhorn Breeders Gulf Coast Association.

Wes and Carol Chancey moved to Austin 19 years ago and immediately fell in love with the Texas Hill Country and Longhorn cattle. Before long they had purchased their C&W Ranch in Lampasas, TX and began breeding Texas Longhorns. Their excitement for their cattle has always been apparent, and they have hosted many “family days” and children’s activities at their ranch. What started as a weekend getaway soon became a full-time addiction, and they retired to their ranch in 2005. Their program has focused on breeding full-bodied, large-horned cows to some of the top bulls in the breed. CWR Rio Whisky is already producing outstanding calves, and they are very excited about Iron Hail, their newest addition to their lineup of herd sires.

They are focused on breeding top quality cattle. Les and Lane always say that they owe a lot to these cattle. They have a father-son connection that will live forever.

Darin and Dawn Divinia have been raising Texas Longhorns since 2005. They live on their cattle ranch in Red Oak, Texas and enjoy being able to be with their cattle full time. They are a “tag-team” operation with Darin focusing on land and equipment while Dawn focuses on the cattle and their breeding program. Darin stays busy with his job at Yahoo! while Dawn cares for the cows, chickens and the couple’s two children. Their goal as breeders is to be known as honest and forthright while having quality animals that meet the needs of a variety of different breeders. They are members of both the TLBAA and ITLA as well as a Millennium Futurity partner.

Jim and Pia Eyman sought out and purchased a piece of the Texas Hill Country in the hopes of retiring and settling down surrounded by the peace that accompanied it. After 30 years in California and another 10 working in Houston, Texas, they knew they wanted Texas to be their home. In 2009, they had the opportunity to purchase a few Longhorns which they quickly fell in love with. Now fully retired, Jim from the aerospace business and Pia from the County Comminssioners office, they get to spend their time breeding some of their Longhorns, and spoiling the rest. Jim and Pia’s days are filled with time spent with the Longhorns, and also with the donkeys, chickens, cats and other creatures that accompany the ranch. They share a wonderful blended family of 6 children and 7 grandchildren who greatly enjoy visiting the ranch. The Eyman’s philosophy to maintaining a successful breeding operation is to first and foremost enjoy the animals, then to selectively breed their top-notch cows to industry-leading bulls through AI, and lastly to share the heritage of these animals with others for the preservation of the breed.

George and Laureen Gennin (Gennin Longhorns) have a beautiful ranch located in the foothills of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains. Over the past 12 years, Gennin Longhorns has developed one of the best Longhorn herds in the industry. Gennin Longhorns is actively involved in embryo transfer using elite ladies like EOT Outback Barbie and Grass Roots Big Empress. They are flushing these cows to Top Caliber, Hunts Command Respect, Respect Me, and JP Rio Grande. Some youngsters of this breeding are showing potential for tremendous horn - many projected to be in the 85-90” TTT category. Plans to breed the heifers of these flushes with Grass Roots Big Super (80.5” TTT) should produce some of the longest-horn animals in the breed. George and Laureen are focusing to improve their herd genetics and produce some of the best cattle in the country. This is underscored by their aggressive breeding programs. The enjoyment of raising Longhorns is actively shared by their Grandchildren: Sierra (16); Caylie (13); George “G3” (11); and Raquel (9).

The Gravetts began raising Texas Longhorns at G&G Longhorns in 1988 as a natural extension of their interest in agriculture. The ranch has evolved into one of the leading programs in the breed. For many years, the Gravetts hosted a sale in Culpeper, VA known as the Gravett-Babington Sale to offer their cattle and also provide a place for their customers to market through consignment. The Gravetts are the founders of the successful Millenium Futurity. They also host the annual Cherry Blossom Sale, the Annual Fall Roundup and now the Eastern Longhorn Weekend in 2012. Ben is also one of the founding members of the super successful Horn Enterprise promoting the great bull Sittin Bull. Always willing to serve, Ben has been active on several boards at the local and national level, along with being a major supporter of the breed through contributions and donations including those to each Longhorn World Championship. The Gravetts are lifetime members in the TLMA, ITLA, and TLBAA along with being a Founding Member of the Texas Longhorn Marketing Alliance.

Hal and Carole Griffin’s dream of owning Texas Longhorns became a reality in 2005. Even though they started out with three heifers for “yard art,” their herd grew quickly. Their goals for their breeding program have remained consistent, with the desire to breed the best Longhorns possible. Besides raising Longhorns, the two dedicated more than 35 years showing and breeding registered German Shorthaired Pointers. Hal and Carole have also enjoyed raising horses on their Rocking G Ranch located in Alvord, Texas.

Frank and Michelle live in Houston but spend as much time as possible at Deer Creek Farm in Brenham, Texas. They are very proud of their Longhorn cattle and put a lot of effort into their program. Family, especially their three granddaughters, is the most important part of their lives and nothing is more fun than having the girls come up with names for the new calves. When not at the farm in his boots and jeans, Frank is still very active in business and serves as chairman of three privately held companies. Michelle is very active in a number of non-profit organizations, especially Bayou Bend, with its spectacular gardens and outstanding collection of American art and furniture. Visitors are welcome at Deer Creek Farm which consists of 262 acres, several lakes and some of the biggest live oak trees in Texas.

Nelson and Tammy Hearn started Nel-Tam Longhorns in the cozy town of Richland, Pennsylvania back in 2007 with only 3 cows. The following year they added to the herd with a few more cows, and one lucky bull they named “Happy Bull.” Tammy is a bank-teller, and Nelson is a heavy equipment operator and a certified ITLA judge. Nelson and Tammy enjoy using AI to introduce new genetics to their herd. They have made dramatic progress with their breeding program. Nelson and Tammy love attending Longhorn events, and showing their Longhorns. They are active participants in the Millennium Futurity as well as several other Longhorn Industry events.

Iron Hail is one of the most exciting young bull prospects to appear in the Texas Longhorn breed in many years. He was sired by one of the Longhorn breed’s best known producers, Sittin Bull. His dam is Cherry Coyote, a cow with exceptional milking capacity – a trait that can be expected to pass on to Iron Hail’s offspring. At the 2013 Longhorn Extravaganza, Iron Hail measured a breath-taking 76-3/4” TTT at only 2-1/2 years of age. He should easily top 80” TTT by his third birthday, and is expected to ultimately exceed 90” TTT. His production is already drawing a lot of attention, as his early calves are colorful, long-limbed, and stout.

Iron Hail is known for his perfect balance – long level horns with strong base, excellent conformation, and beautiful color. Combine these traits with his gentle and easy-going nature, and he makes an outstanding choice to add the complete genetic package to any Longhorn program.

Hoosier Longhorns is made up of four brothers and a sister, and each of them doing their part to raise quality Texas Longhorns. Raising Longhorns started with a need for healthy red meat, but being raised on a love for things of the old west, it quickly turned into a passion for an animal that is unique in every aspect. Calving season, for them, is like the pleasure an artist feels after creating a painting. The joy of the Texas Longhorn is not in selling it, but in the time spent raising, caring for, and getting to know each animal and their wonderfully created offspring. When they sell a Longhorn, and know that the new owner will love it as much as they have, that completes the circle!

Mike and Kim purchased their first Longhorns about 6 years ago, and continue to spend time seeking the advice of many established, longtime breeders. As everyone knows, it takes time to build a high-caliber herd and along the way there are many fits and stops. They like the group of producing animals they have and have tried to rapidly and substantially improve the herd through acquisition, AI and embryo transfer. Kim helps to hold the ranch operation together on a daily basis while Mike owns a health care consulting company with many clients that keep him busy traveling around the country. They look forward to attending many sales each year in various regions of the country where they consign and purchase quality Longhorns.
