Leeds Metropolitan students launch Creative Arts Festival 2011
Over 600 graduating students from Leeds Metropolitan University¶s Faculty of
Arts, Environment & Technology are set to showcase their work throughoutJune at a series of exhibitions, performances and screenings as the Creative
Arts Festival 2011 is launched on Thursday 9 June.
Final year students from Film, Television & Performing Arts, the Leeds School
of Contemporary Art & Graphic Design and the Leeds School of Architecture,
Landscape & Design will be exhibiting innovative and creative work to
potential employers and industry representatives, friends and family and the
wider public between Thursday 9 June and Wednesday 15 June.
With most events taking place at the University¶s landmark Broadcasting
Place building, which last year was named the best tall building in the world
by the council for global architects based in Chicago, the Festival this year
includes film screenings, a performing arts showcase and exhibitions from
final year students in Contemporary Art, Fine Art and Graphic Arts as well as
Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Design. Most
work on display will also be for sale or commission.
Professor Mohammad Dastbaz, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Environment &
Technology at Leeds Metropolitan University, commented: ³The Creative Arts
Festival is a fantastic opportunity for the city of Leeds to view an amazing
array of creative talents on show in the exhibitions, screening and

performances put on by our students. Our Festival is a way of spotting the
rising stars of the future and provides a great opportunity to network. The
Festival is once again hosted in our award winning and innovative Faculty
building, Broadcasting Place, a fitting venue for the creativity that will be on
show for everyone to see.´
Following the launch on Thursday, the Festival will run between 10am and

y The Creative Arts Festival is an annual showcase run by Leeds
Metropolitan University which this year features the work of over 600
graduating students from the Leeds School of Contemporary Art &
Graphic Design, Leeds School of Architecture, Landscape & Design
and Film, Television & Performing Arts at Leeds Metropolitan
University, attracting visitors from around the country. The festival runs
from 10-15 June, 10am-4pm including the weekend with the opening
night on 9 June, 6pm-9pm at Broadcasting Place, City Campus,
Woodhouse Lane, Leeds LS2 6EN.
y Many of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses are accredited
by professional bodies and we maintain strong links with in dustry;
many academics also continue to practice in industry.y Our students enjoy fantastic purpose-built studios and facilities
including multi-functional workshops to support their learning, which will

y Prominent artists Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore are among our
alumni. Oscar-nominated Mohamed Al-Daradji is also a graduate from
our film school.

of the Leeds Mechanics Institute.
