Music Technology For Music Teachers This workshop introduces the basics of music technology. It includes how to set up a computer, keyboard and synthesiser, what MIDI is and it introduces a selection of software ideal for use in the classroom.

This is aimed at trainee music teachers and NQTs (primary and secondary) who have very little experience with using music technology and ICT.

Reasonable at Reason! There are several pieces of industry standard music technology software that have become invaluable tools for teaching music in today’s’ modern curriculum and Reason is definitely one of the best. This training is aimed at Music teachers with limited or reasonable computer skills (PC or Mac) as well as teachers with some knowledge of the software but want to learn a bit more. We offer half day courses or taster sessions.

Introduction to PodcastingLearn how to create usable and functional podcasts to enhance your students learning on a topic of your choice in a fun and informative way.

Podcasts and Blogs for Self and Peer EvaluationAudio/Video podcasts and written blogs are a fantastic tool to relinquish the monotony of the written word and produce exciting, specific and fun content that can be geared towards self and peer evaluation. The production of short, person-centred video clips and self referencing audio clips takes the strain away from the learner less able to produce reams of coherent text and allows them to express their thoughts in a more creative and relaxed manner, and allows the learner to still satisfy course requirements. These podcasts are shared in a specific format and with RSS feeds to allow easy integration to other applications.

I Can AnimateAnimation is a great way to get young people engaged and can be used throughout the whole curriculum.

Using ‘I Can Animate’, this session will introduce the software and allow participants to have a go at creating an animation.

Digital BlueLearn how to create exciting stop frame animations using special effects and sound effects to add that finishing touch. Digital Blue cameras are available from some CLCs for schools to borrow, subject to availability.

ScratchLearn how to use Scratch to teach sequencing and control. Covers sprite creation, commands, loops and procedures.

FramesA brief introduction to creating an animation using Frames. We will create a short piece using clay animation.

As well as film courses our CPD workshops cover a wide range of other media areas, including audio production and animation.

Our media facilities include access to professional standard software and our professional Music studio.

Delivered by the Open University and funded by DfE, Vital is a professional development programme which aims to help you use ICT to add value to your lessons and find new ways to engage your learners.

Each of the courses start with a face-to-face session, either at one of the CLCs or in your own school. The date for this is flexible too, to ensure that it fits with your other teaching and preparation commitments.

The courses run for between five and 15 weeks, with opportunities to contribute to online discussions with fellow course participants, get support from your Vital Facilitator and to share what you have been doing in your own classroom with your students or pupils.

Course materials are all online, developed by the Open University and available to browse at a time that suits you. Typically, you will need to set aside an hour or two each week for the course, but this includes preparation for and reflecting on your usual classroom activities. At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

As an introductory offer, Vital is working with the Leeds CLCs to offer significant discounts on published prices. Please contact us to register interest and confirm details of what Course you’d like to do.

All Vital courses are online with one face-to-face session which will be arranged within the first two weeks of the course start date.
