Our current budget has approved the building of a 40 x 60 building for animal control to house stray and unwanted animals. We were granted only $10, 000 dollars for the building. The $10,000.00 is enough to only pour a foundation. The estimated cost for the finished building is $67,000.00. Unfortunately additional funds needed to construct the building into individual cages, electrical, plumbing, sewage, labor and equipment needed for the holding facility was not approved in the budget. We are seeking grants to assist with the construction, electrical, plumbing, sewage, labor and equipment needed. Lee County has grown over the years and with the added growth, we are seeing more and more at risk animals. Our average in-take of strays and unwanted animals for a week is well over 40 animals-this does not include animals that may have serious medical problems that we are having to actually put down or take to the local humane shelter. The new growth is good for the county but we are seeing animals that are suffering because our present situation cannot sustain the growth of our community.

Once the building is constructed we will be able to shelter over one hundred and twenty-eight animals. We will also provide medical assistance and give all the animals the necessary shots to keep the animals healthy among the other animal population. We’ll also provide the necessary hygiene for all the animals that comes into our shelter. We will actively seek caring foster parents and permanent homes for our animals that we put up for adoption. We will educate the general public on the safety that concerns animals, and we will promote a spay and neutering program to control the animal population. We want to include some of our docile animals in a program that we can cater to our Lee County Nursing Facility for the elderly shut-ins. We also want to include a program that helps kids that are being abused and need therapy by involving them with our new expanded facility. We are interested in setting a “how to take care of your animal” program with the elementary schools to get children actively involved with the correct measures of taking care of animals.

After the building is constructed the fees that are set in place for citizens who abuse local and state ordinances that relates to animals will sustain the animal control shelter day-to-day activities. Community services programs will also provide the necessary help or workers that will help us make our new shelter a great success. Our mission as Lee County Animal Control is to balance the health, public safety, and welfare needs of people and animals in Lee County by responsibly and humanely enforcing state and local animal-related laws; providing nourishment and a safe environment for unwanted, stray, abused, and impounded animals; educating the public about responsible companion animal ownership; investigating cases where animal care is questionable; and finding new loving homes for homeless animals at our shelter. By providing assistance with any grant money that can be afforded to our cause will help our mission to be possible. All necessary documents are included in this letter. Lee County Animal Control

Lee County Animal Control has been in existence since 1925. We are no longer looked upon as just the dog catchers, but we are an operating facility with two animal control officers

We have 14 temporary areas to hold animals but we are still transferring many animals to the Albany Humane Society.

We offer adoptions, foster parenting, and assistance with spay and neuter programs.

Lee County is ranked as the 43rd fastest growing county in the nation and the 8th fastest in Georgia, and with that being said our animal population has quadruped.

By collaborating with Lee County Animal Control, PETCO will be able to reach a much broader target population, and concentrate on the more advancing rules and regulations of animal welfare and human interaction.
