Foreword
The 4th International Conference on Human-centric Computing (HumanCom’11)and The 6th International Conference on Embedded and Multimedia Computing(EMC’11), HumanCom’11-EMC’11, aim at providing an exciting platform andforum for researchers and developers from academia and industry to present theirlatest research in the fields of human-centric computing and EM (Embedded andMultimedia) computing.
This year HumanCom’11-EMC’11 received 145 submissions from authors in12 countries. All papers were reviewed by HumanCom’11 and EMC’11 programcommittees, whose members are from USA, UK, Germany, France, Korea, China, and etc. Each paper received at least 3 reviews. Based on these reviews, theprogram co-chairs accepted papers into two categories:
Regular papers: 34 papers passed the most stringent selection. Each paper is upto 12 pages in the conference proceedings. The acceptance rate for select papersis 23.4%.
Short papers: 10 additional papers are of sufficient publishable valuable. Each paper is up to 8 pages.
For HumanCom’11-EMC’11, we have invited three distinguished speakers forkeynote speeches:– Graph-based Structure Search, by Xuemin Lin (University of New South Wales,
Australia and Eastern China Normal University, China)– Location Significance Ranking from Quality Enhanced Trajectory Data, by
Xiaofang Zhou (University of Queensland, Australia)– Ubiquitous Neural Interface, by Bin Hu (Lanzhou University, China and
Birmingham City University, UK)
Two workshops were held in conjunction with HumanCom’11-EMC’11:– The 2011 International Annual Workshop on Parallel and Distributed
Computing (PDC 2011)– The 2nd International Workshop on Engineering and Numerical Computation
(EMC 2011)
The proceedings of the workshops are also included in this volume.
v
We would like to thank all the authors of submitted papers for their works andtheir interests in the conferences. We would like to express our sincere appreci-ation for all members of the program committees. It was from these reviews wehave identified a set of submissions that were clear, relevant, and described highquality work in related research fields. It was through these reviews, authorsreceived objective and often detailed feedback from a diverse group of experts. In addition, we would like to thank the steering committee members Prof. StephenS. Yau, Laurence T. Yang and Hamid R. Arabnia for their invaluable adviceand guidance. Our special thanks also go to all workshop organizers for theirprofessional expertise and excellence in organizing the attractive workshops. Theconference proceedings would not have been possible without the supports ofthese individuals and organizations.
At closing, it is our hope that all of these efforts have helped to improve andpromote human-centric computing and EM computing researches in China, otherAsian countries, United States and beyond.
