    Eligible employees can receive leave for up to a total of12 workweeks during a calendar year, continuanceof health plan coverage as if on pay status, andreinstatement rights. Eligible academic appointees areentitled to take unpaid leave or to substitute accrued

    vacation or accrued sick leave for the following reasons:a. the appointees own serious health condition;

    b. to care for the appointees child, parent, spouse, or

    domestic partner (same sex or opposite-sex) with a

    serious health condition;c. to care for the appointees newborn child or a child

    newly placed with the appointee for adoption or
