JacPlus book: Maths Quest 11 Mathematical Methods Chapter 1 Look for the examples in the work preceding each exercise in the textbook. How do we write linear equations? http://goo.gl/6pn7f http://goo.gl/wefVg http://goo.gl/cmmyvN You need to:

• Know about gradients (1C) • Describe transformations of lines using

language of dilation, change of gradient and vertical translation.

• Be able to sketch linear functions quickly, easily and with accuracy. (1D)

• Find the equation of a line given certain information. (throughout the chapter)

• Use modelling techniques -applications using linear functions (1H)

Practical  Components

Do the following exercises: 1. Quick quiz – 7 questions – tell me how you

went…J Http://goo.gl/kOqLDn

2. JacPlus book: Maths Quest 11 Mathematical Methods Chapter 1

• Exercise 1C - Gradient of a straight

line Q’s 1, 2a,d, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 • Exercise 1D - Sketching Linear

Functions (do a few from each of question 7 to 12, 13 - 15)

• Exercise 1H - Linear Modelling (All even numbered questions)

QFO  Quiz/Forum/Other

No quiz this week.

Topic: Functions and Relations Unit Goal

• understand the concepts of relations and functions • understand the inter-connectivity of the written, graphical and

algebraic forms of relations • develop mathematical models with various functions • use algebraic methods and graphing software to identify the key

features of linear and quadratic functions. This week’s focus:

• linear functions and modelling

Goals

Learning  Brief   MM1: Numbers, Patterns, Relations, Functions

1 Your investigation this week is to become familiar with the general equation and h,k forms of the following functions Quadratic functions Cubic functions Hyperbola Circle and Semi- Circle You should be able to find these answers in your prescribed texts or on the internet. You are also then required to investigate the similarities between the family of odd powered functions 𝑥 3 , 𝑥 5 , 𝑥 7 , and the family of even powered functions. eg 𝑥 2 , 𝑥 4 , 𝑥 6 .

PART A: The cost of a parachuting course consists of a charge of $450, which covers equipment hire and tuition, and a further expense of $110 per jump.

a) Express the total cost, C, as a function of j, the number of jumps. b) Sketch this linear function c) How many jumps could Nicole afford if she was prepared to spend up to $2000?

PART B: Show me your work from the week ie…… Exercise 1C - Gradient of a straight line (1, 2a,d, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10) Exercise 1D - Sketching Linear Functions (do a few from each of question 7 to 12, 13 - 15) Exercise 1H - Linear Modelling (All even numbered questions)
