Learning Style Definition

One’s preferred manner ofacquiring, using, and thinkingabout knowledge.

VARK definitions• Visual-refers to learning style that involves the utilization of seeing and

observing things. i.e.- When one seeks travel directions, they need to look at a map or one that learns a new skill has to see what the teacher is doing

• Audio-the gaining of information through listening. i.e.-one may ask for directions or talk through with a teacher exactly what one is supposed to do.

• Reading-preference towards gaining information displayed as words, this could be reading and writing. i.e.- One would rather read a manual or a report .

• Kinesthetic- the tendency to gain information through physical experience. i.e.-one may seek travel by following their five senses such as their nose or the sun or learn a new skill by trying something out and acting it out.

• Discuss your VARK learning style with your group.

• Do you agree with the results? Disagree? • Are you a blend of different learning styles or

only one type of learning style? • Why might it be important to be good at all

four learning styles and how might this be important to tutoring?

• What was his/her teaching style? What could it tell you about his/her learning style?

• How might you have adjusted to his/her teaching style to better understand the class?

• Now ask these same q’s while thinking about a previous group project experience.

• In your groups, come up with some possible tutor resources • Think of tangible subjects these resources might be useful for. i.e.-

Math, Science, Writing, Language Arts. • Post your resources on the butcher paper. • Then present your findings to the group.
