OverviewWayside Publishing makes it easy for districts to get the most out of the Learning Site by providing integration with Canvas by Instructure. Districts will have access to online learning materials via Wayside Publishing’s Learning Management System (LMS), the Learning Site. Explorer® digital resources and interactive activities and FlexText® digital textbooks ensure students and teachers are on the path to proficiency, engaging with equitable and innovative pedagogical resources.
Wayside & CanvasIntegrating the Learning Site as an external tool requires the least amount of setup and maintenance and offers users easy access to the clean and user-friendly Learning Site user interface. When you’re ready, we simply connect with you to pass a consumer key and shared secret that will allow you to download the app and connect across platforms. No complicated and time-consuming configuration is required.

Integration Steps
Adding the Wayside Publishing Learning Site External Tool to a Module in a Course or Course Template
1. Contact Wayside Publishing’s Learning Site technical support to receive the key/secret for your institution.
2. In your Canvas account, select the course you want to integrate with the Wayside Publishing Learning Site.
3. Select the Apps tab from the Settings page.
4. Type “Wayside Publishing” into the search field.
5. Click the Wayside Publishing external app icon.

6. Click the + Add App button.
7. Copy and paste the Consumer Key and Shared Secret for your institution into the Add App dialog that opens. The Name is automatically populated with “Wayside Publishing Learning Site”
as the default name. We recommend not changing the App name.

8. Click the Add App button. A confirmation message should be displayed.
9. Navigate to the Modules page and click the +Module button.

10. Type the name of your new module in the Add Module dialog. We recommend using the same name chosen in the Add App dialog (Step 7) - “Wayside Publishing Learning Site”.
11. Click the Add Module button.
12. Click the + (plus sign icon) button on your new module.

13. Select External Tool from the Add Item… dialog drop-down menu.
14. Click the Wayside Publishing Learning Site external tool.
15. Check the Load in a new tab check box if you want to launch the Wayside Publishing Learning Site tool in a new tab. Leave the Load in a new tab check box unchecked if you want the
Wayside Publishing Learning Site tool to launch within Canvas as an IFrame.

16. Click on the Add Item button to add the Wayside Publishing Learning Site tool to the module.
17. Click the (circle backslash icon) to publish the new external tool and module. This will change the circle backslash icon into a green circle check mark icon.
18. Click the Wayside Publishing Learning Site external tool.

19. If you previously checked the Load in a new tab checkbox in Step 15, click the Load Wayside Publishing Learning Site in a new window button to load the Wayside Publishing Learning Site in a new tab.
Otherwise, the Wayside Publishing Learning Site will launch within Canvas as an IFrame.
