CMF-Johnson Center Grantmaking SeriesCMF partners with the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy to offer this practitioner-led learning series that teaches the techniques of effective grantmaking to both new and seasoned foundation professionals. The sessions are highly practical and designed to be as accessible and affordable as possible.

InFocus Southeast MichiganInFocus brings CMF members together to network and learn about key issues and policies affecting metropolitan Detroit, the Southeast Michigan region, and beyond.

Midwest Corporate Giving Webinar Series These webinars are designed specifically for corporate foundations and giving programs, made possible through CMF’s partnership with Indiana Philanthropy Alliance, Philanthropy Ohio, and Forefront.

Midwest Family Foundation Webinar SeriesThis series, designed for staff and trustees with non-staffed or small-staffed family foundations, is presented through CMF’s collaboration with Indiana Philanthropy Alliance, Philanthropy Ohio and Forefront.

NCFP SeriesThe National Center for Family Philanthropy (NCFP) Series offers a monthly webinar with rotating topics focusing on family philanthropy. Complimentary webinar registrations are available as a benefit to CMF members.

FEFO SeriesCMF collaborates with the Foundations Endowments and Family Offices (FEFO) to bring you a series filled with best practices on investing, addressing the unique challenges of managing family wealth, assisting with planning for optimal family legacy, and helping to develop asset management talent in the West Michigan region.

Tri-State Webinar SeriesThe Tri-State Community Foundation Webinar Series is a program made possible through CMF’s partnership with Philanthropy Ohio and Indiana Philanthropy Alliance. The webinars are designed for (but not exclusively for) community foundations.

CMF Mentoring Program The Mentoring Program was created to ensure that a pipeline of diverse professionals receive the tools, strategies, and resources needed to assume leadership roles in philanthropy. During the program, mentees are paired with mentors who are experienced professionals in the philanthropic sector. Please note that applications for the 2018 program have closed. The applications for the 2019 cohort will be available June 2019.

ComNet MichiganComNetworkLOCAL groups are Communications Network member-led opportunities for people working in the social sector to meet colleagues interested in communications from local foundations and nonprofits, to exchange ideas and learn new skills, learn about emerging trends and innovations, form partnerships, grow professional networks, and build community. Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy Michigan (EPIP)EPIP Michigan, a chapter of EPIP National, is a statewide network of emerging leaders working in philanthropy and supporting social change. EPIP's goal is to develop and support Michigan leaders by curating knowledge and content rooted in equitable philanthropy, providing opportunities for professional and leadership development, and creating space for networking and relationship building. CMF is proud to partner with EPIP to support the next generation of philanthropic leaders.

LEARNING COMMUNITIES CMF’s Learning Communities are opportunities for members to come together to learn, explore, or test ideas around a specific topic or project. Learning communities can be short-term or long-term, depending on the needs of the members or duration of the project.

Green and Blue Network The Green and Blue Network (GBN) is an action-oriented learning community comprised of all CMF foundation member types. Members come together to learn from experts and each other about leading environmental issues and how to make more effective and intentional environmental grants, impact environmental policy, and leverage grant dollars.

Scholarship Learning CommunityThe Scholarship Learning Community provides the opportunity for CMF members who grant academic scholarships to individuals to come together to learn from experts and each other about effective strategies for granting scholarships. This learning community is open to all CMF members working in this area.

AFFINITY GROUPS CMF’s issue-driven, public policy-focused affinity groups help to lead and support the collaborative philanthropic response to Michigan’s most critical needs in key issue areas. Each affinity group has a representative on CMF’s Public Policy Committee.

Arts and Culture Affinity GroupThe CMF Arts and Culture Affinity Group (ACAG) creates a learning community in which arts funders share ideas, research and resources, as well as networking and inviting arts and culture leaders to present in unique learning opportunities. ACAG establishes regional cooperation, collaboration, and identity by convening regional arts leaders and supporters.

Michigan Grantmakers in AgingMichigan Grantmakers in Aging (MGIA) connects grantmakers throughout the state who fund programs and projects in communities for all ages. Meetings and events provide opportunities for members to network, share successes and challenges in their work, and consider innovative solutions to support the growing aging population.

The Michigan Forum for African Americans in Philanthropy The Michigan Forum for African Americans in Philanthropy (MFAAP) is dedicated to encouraging philanthropic leadership within the African American community and supporting an emerging public policy agenda. MFAAP provides opportunities designed to help members grow and learn together through professional development, networking, and educational seminars.

Michigan Grantmakers for Women and GirlsMichigan Grantmakers for Women and Girls (MGWG) provides leadership to Michigan’s philanthropic community to help understand the importance of using a gender lens to address the complexity of social issues, to be effective grantmakers, and to promote equitable opportunities.

The Michigan Land Use Funders The Michigan Land Use Funders (MLUF) is a network of funders of varying size, type, and scope across the state who provide support to land use-related projects that encompass a wide range of cross-cutting issues and interests, including environmental protection, land acquisition, urban revitalization, historic preservation, environmental justice and more. MLUF will conclude as an affinity group with a final program in 2018.

P-20 Education Affinity GroupP-20 Education Affinity Group convenes around pressing issues that impact Michigan’s students and educational systems. Responses range from supporting research to taking policy positions, meeting with government officials, and collaboratively funding projects to catalyze positive outcomes in education for Michigan’s communities.

The Rural Philanthropy Affinity GroupThe Rural Philanthropy Affinity Group connects grantmakers throughout the state who fund programs and projects in rural communities. Through learning experiences and rural philanthropy cohort opportunities, participants expand the range of strategies and roles that grantmakers will consider to invest in rural people, places, and economies.

The Health Funders Affinity GroupThe Health Funders Affinity Group connects members throughout the state who fund programs and projects with a health focus to engage in education, build awareness, consider related policy, and develop collaborative funding initiatives.

The Talent and Human Resources Affinity Group The Talent and Human Resources Affinity Group is designed to connect those supporting human resources development in their organization (be it HR professionals, trustees, or other staff) and those seeking to advance policy and practice in areas of equity and employment.
