CFS

Container-Freight Station

A port facility for loading and unloading containerized cargo to and from ships. Also called container terminal.

EFL (Expo Freight Limited) has been using 7 (Seven) CFS (Container-Freight Station) simultaneously.

These are as below:

1. SAPL (Latest addition dedicated for EFL cargo only)2. Esack Brothers Ind. Ltd.3. Incontrade Ltd. 4. K&T Logistics Ltd.5. QNS Container Services Ltd.6. Nemsan Container Ltd.7. KDS Logistics Ltd.

During my short visit have got the chance to visit 3 (Three) CFSs only. Have got hands on experienced and learned about the procedure of cargo handling in there. Have got very good idea and information on the CFSs. Below I have discussed the information I gathered on the three namely CFSs 1.SAPL (Summit Alliance Port Limited) 2. Esack Brothers Ind. Ltd. 3. Incontrade Ltd.

1. SAPLA three storied warehousing having cargo lifting facility with a 70,000 (thousand) SFT floor area SAPL is

holding the handling capacity 70TEUs per day. It has 15 loading and 15 unloading bay. To facilitate the daily

cargo operations like loading and unloading SAPL can employ loader (registered to port authority) on daily

basis from. With advanced tolls and security system SAPL is ever ready to serve CFS services to EFL at its

maximum capacity. Having 8 (Eight) EFL management personal the CFS gets ultimate supervision in-order to

carry on its daily activity smoothly.

2. INCONTRADEDue to time limits we could not visit the CFS physically. But got some information on it form Mr. Mohammed

Shamsul Hoque – Manager, Ocean Freight (CFS). With a 12,000 (thousand) SFT floor area Incontrade is

holding the handling capacity 15- 20 TEUs per day. We use this CFS to keep cargo for some specific carrier

like Hepag, Maersk Line & Hyundai

3. ESACK BROTHERSThis is the oldest CFS being used by EFL. Where we do Cargo consolidation, VAS activities, SEA/AIR

Shipments. With a 13,000 (thousand) SFT floor area Esack Brothers is handling 30TEUs per day. It has 6

loading and 6 unloading bay. To facilitate the daily cargo operations like the other CFS, Esack Brothers CFS do

employ loader (registered to port authority) on daily basis. With advanced cargo handling tolls and security

system Esack Brothers has been providing CFS services to EFL at its maximum capacity. Having 8 (Eight) EFL

management personal the CFS gets ultimate supervision in-order to carry on its daily activity smoothly.

Special Learning: Bill of entry or Bill of Loading is like the VISA given for international travel. While handing over the cargo at

CFS shippers have to provide Invoice and Packing List along with Shipping Order to the CFS authority.

According to the documents CFS authority receives the cargo from shipper. In the CFS those documents are

taken to the customs authority and after inspection and clearance from customs authority a Bill of Shipping is

issued and submitted to shipping authority that represent the cargo all the way to destination. After releasing

the cargo at destination by its consumer that BL collected by the shipper as a probe of cargo delivery.

4. CFS OPERATIONAL PROCEDURE

SEA PORT

A port is a location on a coast or shore containing one or more harbors where ships can dock and transfer people or cargo to or from land. We can see three harbors in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Those are 1. GCT (General Container Terminal) 2. NCT (New Mooring Container Terminal) 3. CCT (Chittagong Container Terminal)

1. GCT (General Container Terminal)

GCT is the biggest and oldest terminal of all where only on-gear vessel can do the docking. 12 of the ships can

do the docking at a time in there. Since there is no external gantry crane available. Ships that has crane inside

(On board crane) the ship to do the cargo loading and unloading are called on-gear vessels.

Cargo being received at the CFS based on the shipping oreder along

with Invoise and packing list.

Cargo is being unload the from trucks and

store it PO/Style/Buyer/color wise inside the CFS. Some time the same

cargo is unloaded in and loaded out again to ship

out.

Computarized/Manuel record is being done to

track the cargo and putting stuffing date.

According to the stuffing date stuffing the cargo into container to ship

out.

Monitoring the cargo while stuffing and giving

customized servicecs like Pallating, Hanging

the cargo inside the container.

When stuffing is done the container gets a

security seal and then handed over to the liner.

2. NCT (New Mooring Container Terminal)

This part of the harbor is the smallest of all. Having only 4 vessel birthing capacity it allows gearless and on-gear vessel to take docking in it. The availability of external gantry crane made it possible to do the docking for all kinds of vessels.

3. CCT (Chittagong Container Terminal)

This part of the harbor is the newest of all. Having only 6 vessel birthing capacity it allows gearless and on-gear vessel to take docking in it. The availability of external gantry crane made it possible to do the docking for all kinds of vessels in there.

CONCLUSIONThe visit was indeed a great opportunity for me to learn about and enhance my knowledge on CFS & Sea Port operations. I would love to visit Chittagong CFS & Sea Port to see and learn about the operations being done there again. I believe now I can talk about and share information with EFL customers related to CFS & Sea Port in a better way.
