Discover more about Bisaccia

The Ducal castle is the symbol of the village. Its first stone dates

back to the 9th century, when the Longobards invaded andconquered the area. The scale of this majestic structure reveals

its defensive origin, amply demonstrated by the thick walls and

12 metre tower.

The interior opens up onto a paved courtyard ending with a

Renaissance loggia, which overlooks the spectacular

surroundings.

In 13th century it was the hunting reserve of Frederick II, Duke

of Swabia, and a meeting place of the poets of the Sicilian Today the castle is

.

Much sought‐after for its position and beauty, in 16th century it

became the dwelling of the Renaissance man of letters Giovan

Battista Manzo, who enlivened the halls of the castle with

cultural banquets; among his guests was also his friend

Torquato Tasso.

Unfortunately, natural disasters, such as earthquakes, havedamaged the structure through the centuries. It has recently

been refurbished and restored thanks to a thorough

programme of restoration work.

Flights costs are not included, you will need to make your own arrangements. Course fees cover transport and admission

to various sites, but do not cover the cost of  lunch, dinner and other sundry expenses.

It is worth exploring flying into airports other than Naples, which is served by a limited number of  carriers.  One possibility

is to fly into Rome and then take the train to Naples or arrive a few days earlier. The train trip to Naples is very reasonably

priced and passed through some beautiful countryside.

We won’t have time to visit Naples properly, so you may want to add a few days before or after the course, in order  to

soak in the distinctive atmosphere of  this beautiful city.
