Learning Goals Success Criteria

I will be able to identify the sacraments of healing and their connection to Eucharist/Communion

I will understand the significance of the Eucharist as a sacrament instituted over 2000 years ago on the night of the Last Supper in the context of the Holy Mass.

I will understand the science of the Eucharist as the “body” of Christ and not as a “symbol”.

I will be able to apply the Eucharist once received to how I live my life as a Catholic.

*Eucharist

*Unlike most other sacraments, Eucharist is not a one-time reception of God’s grace, but a weekly sharing in Christ’s sacrifice for us.

Eucharist as a meal

*EucharistEucharist as a Sacrifice

*Jesus’ words “Do this in memory of me” are more because they give us a way to truly be present in our faith the way the apostles were 2000 years ago

*the words that need to be stressed are:

“this is my body, which is given for you … This cup is.. My blood which is poured out for you”

These words speak of sacrifice and indicate that the Last Supper is closely linked with Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. By sharing in the Eucharist we are sharing in Jesus’ sacrifice

The First purpose is to receive the body and blood of Christ is to recall His sacrifice on Calvary for us.

The second reason to receive Eucharist is to go forth with the strength of Christ to live as he would live.
