Welcome

Welcome to Oxford & Cherwell Valley College and our Learning for Leisure Guide. This Autumn we are offering a range of creative arts and language short courses for adults (anyone 19 and over), and I hope you will find something that will interest you. These courses have been designed to fit into your lifestyle, so that you can study around your commitments in the best way possible.

A part-time leisure course is a great way to develop your interests and skills in a stimulating environment. We offer experienced teaching and excellent facilities, and you are sure to make new friends as you learn.

If you are a regular learner, you will see that we have reduced the number of courses on offer this Autumn. Over the past five years, part time adult learning-for-leisure classes in colleges have been targeted nationally for substantial cuts by the Government. We have tried throughout this period to minimise fee increases for part time adult learning-for-leisure courses, but as we face further substantial funding cuts this year, we

are no longer in a financial position to carry the costs of the part time adult learning-for-leisure programme. This means that leisure course fees have risen by an average of 55% and, in line with normal practice across the college, we have introduced a separate fee to cover the materials students will need on their programme. However, we remain committed to keeping fees as low as possible and we know that our courses continue to offer tremendous value for money.

We hope that reading this guide will inspire and encourage you to broaden your horizons with a part-time course to enrich your leisure time.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Sally Dicketts Principal
