Simple two-cut pop-up

Make two cuts from the fold. They should be the same length

and less than halfway across the paper.

Fold across the ends of the cuts, then turn the paper over and

crease the fold the opposite way.

Open the card and gently squeeze the pop-up section into the card. Close the card

gently and squash all the folds.

When you open it, it should look like this:

Now you can cut out and stick an animal, a

shape or whatever you choose to the pop-

up.

If you want to, you can stick a piece of card around your pop-up to hide the cuts.

Multiple-cut pop-up

This is very similar to the two-cut pop-up.

Make pairs of cuts from the fold. Each pair should be the same length (but might be a

different length to the other pairs). Try to cut less than halfway across the paper.

Fold across the ends of each pair of cuts, then turn the

paper over and crease the folds the opposite way.

Open the card and gently squeeze the pop-up

sections into the card. Close the card gently and

squash all the folds.

When you open it, it should look like this:

Now you can cut out and stick animals, shapes or

whatever you choose to the pop-up.

If you want to, you can stick a piece of card around your pop-up to hide the cuts.

Making a simple book for pop-ups (page 1 of 2)

It’s best to use A3 (or bigger!) paper for this, but you can make a small book with A4

paper.

Open the paper out to its full

size again. Then fold it back in

half, so 4 sections are showing.

Fold your paper

in half, then half

again and then

half again.

Cut from the long fold to the

middle of the 4 sections.

Fold the paper along the long

edge.

Open the paper out to its

full size again.

Stand the paper up and gently

squeeze the ends towards the

middle until the hole in the

middle pops open.

Concertina the paper across

until it lies flat. Then fold it one

last time to make the book.
