Learn Innovative Teaching-Learning Strategies Active Learning in Optics and Photonics (ALOP) is a hands-on educator training program that SPIE supports. ALOP workshops offer physics teachers the opportunity to improve their conceptual understanding of optics and photonics, and to foster the use of laboratory work and hands-on activities in the classroom. ALOP, conceived by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is also supported by SPIE, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), and the National Academies of the USA. Activities use simple and inexpensive materials, and materials that can be fabricated locally, whenever possible. The participants are each provided with a copy of the training manual, and, after the workshop, basic equipment for the hands- on activities are distributed for use in their own classrooms. Learn Innovative Teaching-Learning StrategiesActive Learning in Optics and Photonics (ALOP) is a hands-on
