Grant Helps Fund Retreat (What follows is a series of selected excerpts from a story byLou Kinsey which appeared in the September 2017 issue ofthe WIT newsletter.) Anyone who has taken a class at ArrowmontSchool for Arts and Crafts knows that itscampus and programs are topnotch. Women inTurning (WIT) awarded a grant to partially funda 2017 turning retreat at Arrowmont. BarbaraDill was our lead demonstrator. Her passion forturning and inclusive teaching style set astandard that will be fun to maintain. She knewjust what to do by letting the group direct theirown weekend of learning. A huge shout-out and thank you to the 14 turners who signed upand paid money. You took a risk with this inaugural event. Your experience will surely have animpact on future events as we learn how to effectively execute the mission of WIT. With futureactivities, we will reach out to new turners to offer more opportunities for learning, teaching, and demonstrating. Several women gave their first demo at the retreat. It was pure delight tosee our four novice turners try new techniques, some of which were also new to theexperienced turners. You were inspiring and I can't thank you enough for showing up andparticipating. We packed so very much into our three days together! Learn more aboutWomen in Turning.
