Our mission We help customers and communities achieve their specific goals by taking them on as if they were our own.

Our vision We will be the bank that redefines all that a bank can be and do for people, businesses and communities.

Our values Exceptional Service, Amazing Employees, Thriving Businesses and Communities, Lasting Partnerships.

32017 Annual Report

We do all we can to help you succeed in big and small ways.

Chelsea Groton Bank is a very special place. It all starts with great employees who truly care about their customers, their communities, and each other. That genuine warmth is what’s so appealing to our customers and what sets our service apart from other financial institutions. This is all supported by our Corporators and Trustees who view our mutuality not just as a form of governance, but as a way of doing business. We all truly believe that if we can help to make our customers and our communities successful, then we will be successful too.

You’ll see from the following pages that 2017 was an extraordinary year for us. Our strategy is based on two simple ideas. First is to have helpful, well-informed, enabled employees available in convenient locations, and the second is to provide our customers with the tools to be able to do their banking whenever they want, and however they want. This combination of personal service and technological convenience is a winning formula. Our positive growth, satisfaction, and engagement measurements are all a testament to our success.

Our newly remodeled Center Groton Branch is a living laboratory, allowing us to test out new ways to improve our business model. The emphasis is on relationship building and education. The environment is warm and friendly, the seating areas are conducive to conversation, and the continual education classes give people a reason to visit with us to enhance their knowledge and financial acumen. Likewise, we continue our investments in technology, like a new web-based residential loan application system which allows customers to apply online or with an experienced mortgage professional, and monitor the progress of their loan throughout the approval process. We want customers to have the best possible experience regardless of whether it’s in a branch, online or on the phone.

We are who we are today because of the foresight our founders had, and we reflect often on the importance of staying true to their ideals. But we also look eagerly towards the future and thinking about how we can improve ourselves. With so much change in the world there comes opportunity. We have the size, the capital, the market presence and the people to fulfill our vision of redefining all that a bank can be. I am thrilled personally to be a part of that process. Thank you for your support as we learn, grow and share together.

“ “Community banks, like Chelsea Groton Bank, promote local growth by investing back into the same neighborhoods that their deposits come from. By fostering these local relationships, they achieve two goals: they are highly capitalized and they are accountable to their customers.

BauerFinancial is the Nation’s Premier Bank Rating Firm and awarded Chelsea Groton Bank a 5 Star rating. Chelsea Groton Bank has maintained this rating for 95 consecutive quarters and achieved the status of a “Sustained Superiority Bank”. “Sustained Superiority Banks” have maintained Bauer’s highest rating longer than 90% of the industry, proving once again that Chelsea Groton Bank is among the strongest in the industry.

Employee Volunteerism

Chelsea Groton has been a pillar of the community for over 160 years. This year, employees took the lead and the Bank stepped up to support the issues closest to our employees’ hearts. Marjarie Perrone continued to collect socks and has donated over 1,800 pairs to New London Homeless & Hospitality and New London Covenant Shelter. Alyssa Bryan was instrumental in putting together a Hurricane Relief Drive that provided aid in St. Maarten.

The mother of our Niantic Branch Manager Dana Chapel spent her summer crocheting “chemo caps” which were given out to customers who were in need of extra care and comfort due to cancer treatment. Alyssa Kumpf, a Girl Scout Troop leader, led the charge on holding School Supply Drives in three of our branches. Larry Walker recruited employee volunteer “penguins” and held Bank-wide fundraisers to support the Special Olympics Connecticut Penguin Plunge. Employees donated over $15,000 across 35 organizations through employee-hosted Casual for a Cause Fridays, held throughout the year.

We were interested in purchasing a property for our business, so we contacted the Bank’s commercial lending department. The team was knowledgeable and responsive, and made what could have been an incredibly stressful situation a pleasant experience. We were then introduced to the Business Banking team who listened intently to our needs. Within days they proposed cash management tools that would be beneficial to us. They literally climbed behind my desk to install the check reader for me, talk about service!
