You may be invited to see the rose garden at their peak before anyone else is allowed past the gate. Maybe you will enjoy a wine tasting in the midst of full-blooming crab apple trees. Or how about a truly insiders tour of the buildings and sites where the repairs are made and the testing undertaken?

Perhaps one of our favorite chefs will take the “Arb in a Box” challenge and prepare an unforgettable dish from the contents in the garden produce box. Fees will run between $20-$70, and will always include that something extra…what we call being “Arbifi ed.” Invitations are sent via email only, and small class sizes mean limited availability. Opening of Th e Sculpture Garden. Excitement has been building since autumn of 2012 when the area around Highpoint when footings and platforms were fi rst put into place, followed by the installation of nearly two dozen world-class sculptures. Come to celebrate the offi cial opening of Th e Sculpture Garden in June of 2013. Learn about the international contemporary artists who created this diverse and fascinating collection brought to the Arboretum through the generosity of Arthur and Ingrid Harrison. Gain an appreciation of how this collection complements our already substantive array of sculptures in our gardens.

Turn those rocks you pull from your garden plot into works of art and garden features. Peter Juhl’s (www.temporarysculpture.com/) magical and exquisite balanced stone

sculptures dazzled Arboretum visitors last year. He’s back and ready to teach you how to balance three or more rocks in seemingly impossible fashion without the aid of bolts,

duct tape, or glue! You will revel in Peter’s story of how he became a widely acclaimed rock-balancing artist, and learn a little about physics in the process. He will demonstrate

the various styles and techniques, and then guide you through the steps to create your own balanced rock sculpture. You’ll never look at stones in the same way again. (Rocks included. Some provided by Laurentian Monument, Granite and Stone.)

Learn the basics of arranging in the open, Dutch fl oral style of Constance Spry, a fl oral pioneering master from the 1930’s. Using seasonal Arboretum and Minnesota-grown botanicals including peonies and blooming branches, emphasis will be placed on color blending techniques and using a variety of textures and scent to create complex gestural arrangements. Leave with new fl oral preparation practices, concepts of layering and form, and handy tips on how to create your own masterpieces at home.
