Our Mission Statement: Learn and Play Montessori School provides a superior quality preschool and Kindergarten
education, assisting each child grow to his/her fullest potential by recognizing each stage of development and
creating an environment that nurtures and facilitates growth using the Montessori philosophy.
Dear LAPMS Parents and Families,
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the parents who came to our Thanksgiving Potluck, and for the delicious foods you shared with us. It is through your support that our school events continue to be successful and unforgettable! Thank you for helping us to create special memories in our childrens hearts that they will treasure for a lifetime.
As winter comes knocking at our doors this month, we relish the chilly winter
weather and the comforting crunch of fallen leaves. Students will enjoy winter-related activities, such as the history of the month of December. We will take a journey to Antarctica and learn about the penguins and other birds. Botany lessons will focus on leaf functions.
This month of December is a month of celebration. Children will be learning about different celebrations around the world. On Thursday, December 18th, we will hold our annual Winter Concert outside in the courtyard if weather permits. Children will be performing holiday songs and dances all over the world. Many of you have signed up for Parent Observations, which is an important step in building a partnership of education with the school and your childs teachers. It is a golden opportunity to take a glimpse into your childs world here at LAPMS. We welcome you into our classrooms. Enjoy the holidays! Sincerely,
Ms. Aurelia

Parents are advised to call the school when their child is absent or ill. If a child has been absent due to illness and has been seen by a doctor, a doctors note is needed upon the childs return. A sick clearance slip or excuse slip will be filled out at the front desk upon receipt of the doctors note. The sick clearance slip must be turned in to the classroom teacher.
Medication should be in its original container with the childs full name, and it must not be expired. An authorization form and medication log must be filled out completely for every new medication and signed by a parent.
Parent-Teacher Conferences

. Please check below for
your childs classroom schedule.
Our Winter Concert will be on Thursday, December 18th at 10:30 A.M. in the courtyard if weather permits. Children are encouraged to dress in formal attire. Speak with your childs teacher if there are any specific costumes for your childs classroom. If you wish to pick up your child after the concert, please sign out from your childs classroom and in ProCare at the front desk.

exit. Children will be getting ready for the concert inside
their classrooms, so parents are not allowed in the

is an exciting time for children, and we want them to be
able to prepare and assemble without distractions.
Thank you so much for your understanding!

What Parents Are Saying about Learn
and Play Montessori at Niles
I enrolled my 20-month old daughter at Learn and Play Montessori about a month and a half ago. Im simply amazed at how quickly her language skills are developing. She is able to communicate with me in a way that
has immensely minimized her frustration towards getting what she wants.
The teachers and assistants are so caring and loving, and that warms my heart when I have to
leave her to go to work.
I was also pleasantly surprised when she started singing along with me to Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle, the ABC song, and the fact that
she can almost count up to 20! Wow! I really enjoy seeing her art work as well. Kudos to the teachers, the curriculum, and supportive staff. Im really grateful for everything and the daily support with not
only her but my older son as well. Happy Holidays!

The season of light and celebrations is upon us once again! It is a time of reflection, of wonder, of appreciation, and peace. Dr. Maria Montessori herself was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize three times, and her philosophy on peace education has impacted not only classrooms but the whole movement of peace all over the world. The Montessori curriculum is rich with lessons celebrating peace and diversity. Children are naturally filled with curiosity regarding their world, and Dr. Montessoris curriculum of global education feeds this curiosity through cultural studies, which encompasses geography, botany, zoology, history, science, art, and music. In November, children learn about Diwali, the festival of lights. They listen with delight as the story of Sita and Rama is narrated by a teacher.
Dear Room 2 Parents,
The month of November was rich with history and culture as we learned about the history of the United States, and the pioneers of our nationthe pilgrims and Native Americans. Children learned how to play the Navajo Shoe Game, derived from an old Navajo folktale about the cycle of day and night. In keeping with our reptile unit in the month of November, students created their very own fossils! Students chose their favorite dinosaur and imprinted it on our homemade play dough.
Thank you to all the parents who came to our Thanksgiving Potluck! Children enjoyed a hearty Thanksgiving feast, thanks to all the parents who brought food to share. Teachers are all so proud of all Room 2 friends for a wonderful performance! -Room 2 Teachers

Dear Room 4 Parents, Room 4 students got to participate in a very fun project where they planted pumpkin seeds in eggshells. All of the students had a lot of fun with the activity because they were able to plant the seeds and watch the weekly progress of their own pumpkin. They also really liked having the responsibility of taking care of their plant and making sure it was watered well. They finally got to take their pumpkin home to share with their families. Overall, it was a great experience for all of us! -Room 4 Teachers

In December, the children learn about Hanukkah and the significance of the menorah. They play the dreidel game. They sing songs of Kwanzaa and learn about the seven principles of Kwanzaa. Children learn about the countries that celebrate Christmas. They listen to stories about Las Posadas, a nine-day holiday celebrated in Mexico and some parts of the Southwestern United States.
Children make handmade ornaments to hang in their Christmas trees. They make cards for parents, friends, and loved ones. They learn about St. Lucias Day in Sweden, and the traditions practiced on that day. Dr. Montessori believed that knowledge of the areas in cultural studies is what makes a child a cultured individual. Perhaps more importantly, knowledge of the ways of life and beliefs around the world instills a genuine understanding and love of diversity in each child. Understanding germinates peace.
"Knowledge can be best given where there is eagerness to learn, so this is the period when the seed of everything can be sown, the childs mind being like a fertile field, ready to receive what will germinate into culture. -Dr. Maria Montessori

Only an authorized parent/guardian may drop-off and pick-
up the child. If someone other than the parent is picking up
the child, please sign a parent authorization form, and turn
it in to the front desk.
When checking in and out from ProCare at the front
desk, the computer plays a short sound when the
procedure is finished. Please wait for this sound to
ensure that you have successfully completed the signing-
in or signing-out process.
Late Pick-ups: Please call us if you are going to be late in
picking up your child. Please note that a fee of $2.00 per
minute will be applied.
Our school opens from 7:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. The school director
gives tours at 9:00-11:00 A.M. during the Montessori activity
period. This is the best time to observe the children at work with
different subject areas. Orientations are scheduled at 1:30-3:30
P.M. daily. You may bring your child to the tour, and the child may
observe the classroom during the Montessori activity period. Please call
the front desk to schedule a tour.
An important part of our admissions process is the orientation
where the parents and the child are invited to meet with the
director.
Lets welcome Ms. Claudia in Room 9 and Ms. Tam in Room 8!
We also welcome back Ms. Sylvia in Room 9, who is returning
from her maternity leave. We all missed you, and were glad
