Children, Teachers, Parents: A partnership for the future

2019 Prep Information Night and Transition Sessions
Many of our 2019 Prep families attended an information session last night that aimed to familiarise parents a little more about what to expect when beginning at GK next year. We have 80 students ready to begin with four prep classes planned.
Last night the 2019 Prep Team were announced consisting of Luisa Rinaldi, Sandra Febbraro, Laura Job and Hannah Lon-go. These teachers are already focused on ensuring our new students transition positively with upcoming transition sessions planned and Prep Orientation Day on December 13th.
Currently all other staffing and classes are being confirmed, with teachers having this information ready to share on Tuesday 11th December during the first Year 1—Year 6 Orientation Day. Students will meet their 2019 teacher on this day and then again on Thursday 13th December for a second session.
The following class structure will be in place for Prep—Year 6 in 2019:
2019 will see our teaching teams working even more collaboratively than they do in larger teams. To ensure our class num-bers are not too high, each year we spread children between straight and composite classes. Next year we have five compo-sites in total however the collaborative intent of the Junior, Middle and Senior School teams will see these teacher teams targeting individual student needs rather than grade level needs.
Sovereign Hill Camp for our Year 6 and 5 Students
Our Year 6 students arrived home safe yesterday from three days in Sovereign Hill, soaking up the goldfield life after building knowledge about this throughout the term. Our Year 5 students are up there now after a mid week change over and having a load of fun. Once again I thank our Senior School Staff for all their time and
organisation that make camps happen, as well as our team of parent volunteers who have supported the camp and the children during the week.
What do we Value? RESPECT
Last Friday our community had a small service on November 9th at assembly as a mark of respect in the lead up to November 11th—Remembrance Day. Our school leaders led the ceremony with some information about why we take time to reflect on the sacrifices others have endured for our freedom. We then stopped for our minute silence with 100% respect. A wreath was laid at our AN-ZAC bollard to signify our level of respect on the day. Lest We Forget

2019 Class Placement Requests
TOMORROW (Friday 16th November) is the FINAL DAY that parent requests for 2019 classroom placement consideration can
be made. Social or emotional context is the key area that will be considered. Parents submitting teacher preferences/requests or
requesting students to be together will not be considered in this process. Some consideration may be given in regards to
composite class requests based on social and emotional concerns. Classes will be finalised by TUESDAY next week with no
additional changes after this point. Requests must be written and addressed/emailed to either the Principal or
Assistant Principal. Thank you.

STATE ORIENTEERING
SUCCESS GK was well represented by a team of 118 gr 3-6 students that
competed at the State Orienteering Championships held at
Cardinia Reserve Emerald on Friday 2nd November. The Ori-
enteering championships are the culmination of the 4 week
school Orienteering program.
The GK team won all grade level awards as well as the overall
team event, however what was most pleasing was the team-
work, perseverance and application of our students. A great
day was had by all.
Thank-you to Mrs Green, Mrs Owen, Mr Vanderpol, Mrs Webb
and Ms Piazza for their assistance on the day.
