business improvement strategies worldwide. The approach aims at improving efficiency and
effectiveness combined with building capability within the organizations to enable sustained

With the Indian Industries scaling up their operations and trying to build products and
processes equivalent to the global competition, there is a need to provide a framework which
can be deployed across different type of industries. While LSS is a newer team within CII IQ, it
has engaged with over 100 member organizations and certified 115 black belts with its
selective engagement.
During 2014, the Institute has strengthened its internal team to provide more intense engagement with the
member companies in terms of Building Capability at all levels starting from the front line executives as Yellow
Belts, Middle Managers as Green Belts, Senior Managers as Black Belts and Quality Leaders and Taking up
outcome based assignments focusing on continuous improvement and minimize gap between delivery and client
expectation at lowest possible cost.
In 2015, the LSS team also launched a series of programmes with IIM, Indore to build Facilitators who can drive
change within their respective organizations. The team has also worked closely with members like Rastriya Ispat
Nigam, in building their Quality Improvement Culture. For the first time, they also conducted an induction
programme for a Bank on how to improve client service and experience.
The team has taken up the specific task of creating LSS capability in tier II cities starting off with Indore,
Coimbatore and Calicut, where 150 executives including some of the entrepreneurs themselves participating in
the awareness sessions conducted by IQ. The efforts are getting scaled up and we expect the team to train and
certify over 100 Black Belts during 2015 with a business impact of over Rs 150 Crores to the member

RASHTRIYA ISPAT NIGAM LIMITED
RINL has distinguished itself for employee involvement initiatives through
small group activities like Suggestions and Quality Circles. Over time, these
initiatives emerged as drivers for improvements in processes and work
environment and in some instances these practices have led to innovative
and breakthrough improvements as well. However, need was felt for
introduction of a structured mechanism for encouraging and facilitating
breakthrough improvements through innovative problem solving techniques
and thus help managers in the company to develop analytical and systematic
approach.
It was around the same time when CII-IQ was developing a new vertical of Six
Sigma to cater to the similar needs of industry, that we approached CII-IQ for
their intervention. I am glad that CII-IQ agreed to help us out within the
framework of our existing engagement for training and implementation
support for Business Excellence.
A total of 18 QIPs were taken up in 2014-15. CII-IQ provided constant
support in Capability building and driving Quality Improvement Projects
through conducting timely reviews and facilitation. CII-IQ also conducted a
special 5 days training programme in 2014-15 by customizing their
standard six-sigma program to suit our requirements, where the officers
were introduced to various problem solving techniques like Process Mapping,
Statistical and Graphical tools, Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Multivariate
analysis, Statistical Process Control techniques etc. For the new cycle of
QIPs for 2015-16, Mr. Anurag Seksaria is associated right from the
identification of the projects through interaction with Heads of Department
and senior officers. He has been providing his inputs to the QIP teams in
preparing their action plan and for guiding the teams at different stages in
application of various problem analysis / solving techniques during project
facilitation and reviews.
This exposure to the various problem analysis tools also increase the
knowledge base of our officers and give them an analytical approach to solve
day-to-day problems thus promotion a culture of continuous improvement
based on hard facts and figures.
I write to express my appreciation for all the support and constructive work
that CII-IQ have engaged in while working with us. There is no doubt that our
journey towards excellence has been strengthened with the association of
CII-IQ.
