January Financial Results

Ah, January… the time of reso-lutions for eat-ing less, exercising more, cold weather (typically), empty wallets from the holidays and resetting health insurance deduct-ibles. This flurry of ac-tivity historically results in below budget revenue performance for the hos-pital, with this January being no different. Gross revenue for the month was $8,060,000, coming in $340,000 below bud-get expectations. The below budget revenue was mainly related to a decrease in outpatient volumes for the month, which is a normal Janu-ary trend.

There are, however, a lot of positive financial and statistical results to report for January. First, cash deposits for the month of January were over $2.8 million. This is the highest cash col-lection total since April of last year, collecting 103% of our net patient revenue. The strong cash collection totals

for the month, allowed us to increase our Days Cash On Hand back to 20 days cash! Patient deductions were only 52% this month due to some grant funding we received through the Upper Payment Limit program that is used to help offset some of the charity care we pro-vide to the community. This allowed for Total Operating Revenue of $3,870,920.

Due to large claims paid on behalf of our hospital employee health insurance for the month of January, our expenses were over budget by $75,000. This still did not stop us from having a 15% operating margin and a $448,000 bottom line. This is a great start to 2017! I ask that you continue to look for ways to improve hospital ef-ficiencies and increase revenue. It takes all of us working toward a common goal of con-tinuing to improve the hospital’s financial position so that we can reinvest it not only back into the hospital in the form of new technology and equipment, but bet-ter health for our com-munity.
